A RELIC OF OTHER DAYS. — Tho Parties Namod Were Once Prominent Mon in Nevada City, A gentleman of this city has shown us an old letter that was written many years ago hy I, T. Saxby to Captain George W. Kidd, both of whom are now numbered with the dead, Old timers remember both of these men, Captain Kidd was one ef the first owners in the old Gold Tunnel quartz mine in this city, from which he made quite a fortane. He built the two-story brick building at the corner of Broad and Pine streets, now known as the Morgan & Robérts building. Mr, Kidd was for years, the principal stockholder.in the Bank of Nevada County, but severed his connection with that institution about twenty-five years ago and went to Stockton to reside, and later to San Francisco, where he died. The bank was on Broad street, in the same building occupied now by the Citizens Bank, Mr. Saxby was for years engaged in the late John Lancaster, their stable being where James Hennessey’s stable is now. ‘Mr, Saxby moved from here to San Buena~ .wentura, where he died several years ago, ‘leaving quite an estate. The letter above referred to was written . Maly 1; 1857, from the Holloway Ranch, {Bear River, at which place Saxby was then fliving. Its contents are of a strictly busimess nature, informing Mr. Kidd of the opportunity to buy the ranch property. for $4,000 in cash, which Saxby considered a very low figure, there being about 225,000 feet of lumber in improvements on the place. Saxby further said that he would. affair by attending the entertainment are rent the ranch so that it would pay the. also deserving of the thanks of the firemen. owner three per cent (per month) on the purchase price.
