With this brief statement of facts, however, let it ba understood that we de not claim for Nevada county: that it is a paradise on earth, nor even the popular romance ef sub-tropical glories, .--Mevada county lies-a little north of the central -line of.California, and contains a population of about 25,000. It extends from the summit: of the Sierra Nevada mountaingcén ‘thé east line of the State, . west #éfd @iietariée Of seventy miles to the'}’ ‘SHOP ON BROAD STREET, OPPO. Sacréénts Valley: ‘It is from twelve to twen y miles wide. The altitude is from two to three thousand feet along its central portion and less than Gne thousand feet elevation in the western or valley region. The lin@' df the Central Pacific Railroad ‘crosses the eastern boundary, and. traverses the southern portion of the county for many miles. It then enters Placer county, following close to the southern boundary of Nevada county till near its western limit. The Nevada County Narrow Guage Railroad connects with the Central Pacific at Colfax and extends thence north to the central portion of the county,’ passing through Chicago Park, Grass Valley, and terminating at Nevada City—twenty-two miles from the Central—PacificOverland Railroad. The eentral portions contain most of the rich gold mines, including quartz, hydraulic and placer mines together with, the upper: portion of the Horticultural belt, while the western or foothill region consists exclusive= ly of agricultural and grazing lands. The horticaltural and agricultural section of the county comprises, about 250,000 acres of land, a large per centage of which is adapted to cultivation. San .Inan, Birchville, Sweetland, Cherokee, French Corral, Columbia Hill, Lake City, Malakoff, North Bloomfield, Derbec, Moore’s Flat, Graniteville, Ormonde, Washington, Alpha, Omega, Bear Valley, You Bet, Quaker Hill, Hant’s Hill, Red Dog, Little York, Chicago Park, Buena Vista, Blue Tent, Mooney Flat, Boston Ravine, Allison Ranch, Forest Springs, Patterson, Maybert.
