Pirie THE TRANSCRIPT. i except BROWN & CALKINS. N. P. BROWN. Lb. S. CALKINS, SATURDAY......JAN. 28, 1899 A.GRATIFYING GROWTH. The State Miners’ Association Is Prospering Financially and’ Otherwise. Secretary Benjamin of the Miners’ Association of California writes as follows concerning the prospects of that organization: : “Ibe future of the Association looks very bright. On the 27th of December I sent a circular letter to all of the mining companies that are registered _in the San Francisco directory, asking their support for our Association, and Iam _ pleased to note that a great many of them have signified their willingness to stand by us. A large number of the machinery and supply bouses that have not been called on in the last two years have also agreed to comtribute towards our support as permanent active members. “Tuolumne county is soon to organize with one thousand members as a starter. I bave. written to personal friends interested in mining in various counties, asking their assistance toward organizing. I think I may be safe in making the statement that in our next convention we will have county representatives from one end of the State to the other. “I am also pleased to inform you that the invitation that was sent to the American Institute of Mining Engineers to hold their fall meeting in San _ Francisco has been received favorably by them and in their last communication the secretary states that it is his opinion that the invitation will be accepted. “Our bill for the appropriation for the Paris Exposition was introduced in the Legislature and at the proper time we shall have a hearing vefore the committee. I am assured by personal friends, who are members of both. bodies, that we shall have their cordial support. , “I was very much pleased to place $400 to the credit’ of Placer county a few days ago, and trust that by next fall Placer’s membership may be greutly ‘increased. “The recent rains in the mining district&seem to insure a good year for our industry and I think that the future of thé\Association has an encouraging look also.” .They Were. Not Married. ; pda ed Superintendent Ctiiford Graham. of the Odin mine was in town today and was receiving congratulations on ali hands because of the published. report that he was married yesterday to\Miss Lou Walters of Rough aud Ready. The fact is that no such marriage. took place, but Clifford like the sensible man -he is took the mistake of the newspapers good-naturedly and said he hoped: they would have better luck with their items in future. IEEE een OS eRe ete Fire Officers’ Lanterns. The new lanterns for the Chief Engineer and Assistant of the Fire Deparment arrived yesterday afternoon and hereafter there will be no difficulty in locating those officials at night fires when it is necessary to communicate with them. They are handsome lanterns with heavy glass globes, similar to those carried by railroad conductors. ‘Ihe upper half of the globe of the Chief’s lantern is red, and that of the Assistant is blue. \ Le ae oe ea ae Lc Joaquin Lopez’s Purchase.
