They passed the afternoon very pleasantly ingoing through the different drifts and stopes, and were highly delighted with what they observed, as it was a novel experience fer many of them. Mrs. E. R. Abadie is a delightful entertainer, and the party feel very grateful toward her for their afternoon of pleasure.” New peel at Colfax Superintendent J. D. Laws.has given out that the new station changes will be made at Colfax very soon. The changes provide for anew union Southerna Pacific and Narrow Gauge depot, which will be located opposite the new Gillen Hotel and south of the inspector oftiee and railroad park. The freight depot will: be enlarged. The present plans give the N. C. N. G. one track on the east side of the passenger depot. The Narrow Gauge instead of crossing the 8. P. tracks near the water tanks as at present will pass under the broad gauge north of the engine house and thus reach the bluffs in front of the 8. P, water tank and near the Perkins 6 At the stock yards will be excavated to give more track room. The Standard Oil warehouse and stock yards will be removed to the north end of town above. the fruit houses. An overhead crossing for teame may be built near the .8. P. water tank._The company is in correspondence with the Board of Sapervisors relative to.a roadway beneath the 8. P. tracks in the south part of town. Many delays have occurred with trains at Colfax owing to insufficient yard room_and passing tracks. The arrangement has long been a matter of study, but Superintendent Laws has now resolved to go ahead with the new work which, when completed, will give Colfax splendid station facilities.” Death of Aged Lady! The Record-Union of yesterday had the following item concerning the death of an early resident.of Grass Valley: ‘‘Mrs. Cordelia Buarke,.one of the earliest residents of Sacramento, dropped off into her last rest at an early hour Thursday morning. Death came as gently as sleep comes to a tired child, and her family could hardly realize that she had gone from them forever. Mrs. Burke crossed the plains to California in 1858, and passed one year in Grass Valley before removing to Sacramento. She went to Sacramento in 1854, and has resided there ever since.” Accepied a Position James T. Gribble, one of the most capable mining superintendents in this district, has gone to El Dorado county to take charge of a large mining property there. Mr. Gribble was superintendent of the Yuba mine at Maybert for eleven years, and of the Rewami mine in thie district eight years, and also looked after the Merrimac property. By his painstaking and careful ways and agreeable manners be won the confidence of the mine owners and the esteem of the working men. His many friends wish bim success in his new position. Mat Berkey Chris Barton received a telegram this morning from Berkeley, Alameda county, announcing the serious illness of his wife, and that she wae in a precarious condition.
