Mountain Lions.
Tidings: The same or another mountain
lion than the one reported. seen last Wednesdjay, has béen observed prowling in the
vicinity of the race track, midway between
Grass ‘Valley and Nevada City. A gentleman was in the city today who reports that
on Saturday he surprised the lion while it
was engaged in taking a meal from a bul
lock which had fallen in that vicinity, The
leck’s bones in approved feline fashion, and
when started by the hunterevinced his displeasure by a few ugly growls and then
seized the head ef the dead animal and ran
off into the woods. The lion was, as large
as a good sized dog. The hunter had with
him only a shot gun, and did not attempt to
give the savage brute a charge. He was
tracked for a considerable distance by the
bloody patches of snow at places where he
would hesitate long enough to continue his
meal on the bullock’s head, Parties near
Colfax have also reported seeing mountain
lions in that locality. It is evident that the
late storm has driven them to lower haunts
than they ordinarily frequent, as it is rarely
the county.

The World Almanac for 1895, issued . by
the Daily World Publishing Co; of New

valuable work contains would require a
deal of space in our paper. Its general index enumerates about 1200 different topics
upon which inforinatipn is given, and the
500 pages are jammed with useful statistical matter. It is trtly a marvel in its
way. The World justly. calls it an eneyclopoedia as welt as an alinanac. :
