THE CRIPPLE CREEK STRIKE. Valuation of the Ore Taken Out Is Greatly Exaggerated. The San Francisco papers the past two days have contained sensational dispatches from Cripple Creek, Colorado, in relation to a fabulously rich mining strike reported to have been made near that place. It was stated that some of the ore would pay as high as $500,000 a ton. To most. of the mining men in this district the story man who did a little figuring found that quartz to contain $500,000 in gold to the ton, for the simple reason that a ton of pure gold alone without any quartz is not worth $500,000.
