Local Natives Begin Preparing For Its
Reception Next April.
Hydraulic Parlor'’s committee of arrangements for the Native Sons’ Grand
Parlor to be held at this city beginning
Monday, April 25th, had a meeting last
evening and began getting things in
shape for the great event.
A committee consisting of Fred
Searls, Judge Nilon, Henry Lane, J.J.
Hanley, A. B. Wolf and E. W. Schmidt
was appointed to at once go to work
and solicit subscriptions from business
men and other citizens to the entertainment fund. Every¥ody should
help out in this matter, as the Grand
Parlor will bring several hundred Natives to town to remain a week, and
they will leave several thousand dollars here.
The question of a fitting souvenir to
present to each of the visitors was discussed last evening, and it was decided
to try and have them representative of
the county’s ehief industry by using
in their construction more or less goldbearing quartz from local mines.
The committee will meet again next
Friday night.

Miss Josephine M. White, eldest
daughter of the late James D. White,
ex-County Clerk of this county, was
married at San Jose on Wednesday
last to Adigus J. Crookshank of Santa
Ana. Miss White was born at Washington in this county and spent most
of her life in Nevada City. Her
mother, Mrs. Lucy A. White, left here
afew months ago for San Jose. The .
young lady made an excellent record .

Thomas Ahearn, the stonecutter, was
held up by a highwayman Thursday
night at 8:30 o’clock about half way between town and Boston Ravine, on
Mill street. He had no money with
him, consequently the robber secured
no plunder.
The fight billed for the Athletic Club
tonight is off. Thisis the second or
third time lately that “de gents of de

Grass Valley fancy, to say nothing of.

. The action of Rev. Davis of Gakland
in mixing up with the Durrants at the
last ‘moment in the interest of the
Examiner has aroused intense in-. diguation among the officers and members of the Central Christain Church of
which he is pastor.
He may not be permitted to preach
tomorrow to bis congregation, and it is
likely that there will be charges of unministerial conduct followed by an investigation that may result in his resignation\being demanded.
A Mysterious Disappearance,
Los ANGELES, Jan. 8.—Lester Newlin,
cousin to County Clerk Newlin, bas
been missing since Christmas. That
day he borrowed’ $10 from his employer, saying he was going to Whittier to visit relatives. He did not
reach there, and his friends think he
has met with an accident. Others
think he has fled the country._
A Terrible Explosion.
Guasaow, January 8.—During a fire
at the Hatrick Chemical Works an explosion occurred which killed four firemen and injured a number of other
persons. The damage is estimated at
£50,000.

A Mob Makes: Short Work of a
Murderer,

Courax, Washington, January 8.—
Marshall Chadwick, the supposed murderer ofa man named Hayden near
Farmington on the 22d of last October,
was lynched at two o’clock this morning. A mob took him from the jail
where he was confined: and hung him

Herbert Kelsey, owned by H. K. Brown
& Son, while going down the Ohio
river this forenoon at eleven o’clock
was wrecked by the explosion
of the boiler as it neared. Glenfield,
Pennsylvania. Six or eight then were
killed and at least four were badly injured.
Action of Ohio Miners.

Miners’ Convention went on record’ in
favor of a differential between the Ohio
and Pittsburg low coal fields. It released members who are preachers
from dues, refused to adopt an eighthour record and demanded an advance
