The recital given by the pupils. ot
Mrs. H. G. Parsons, at the National

crowded with.people, as well as the
adjoining room aid the main corridor.
The gathering was one of the most
fashionable and refined audiences that
has assembled in this city for_a long
time, and the selections rendered were
very creditable and well received. Following is the program:

Very Sad. _
Telegraph: A very sad story comes
from Nevada City. It appears that a
young woman at that place’felt so certain that Bryan would be elected that she
wagered 1006 kieses with a young man
gainst a box of gloves or the result.
During the last six weeks she has been
busily engaged nearlyevery evening
in paying the-bet. A few days ago, however, a dispute arose over the count,
and, in order that no mistake shall -be
made, at the young woman’s suggestion.
the score has been wiped out.and the
count will be begun all over again.
Nevada girls always are scrupulously
honest in refusing to take advantage
of an adversary.
