One of the nicest attractions that has
been scheduled for the night of the
Fourth will be a confetti battle, It 1s
a French custom and ‘is one of the
pleasing features at all Mardi Gras
events. For the information of those
who have not had the pleasure of wit
nessingone of these good-humere .
batties, it may be said that the fight is
carried on with red, white and blue
paper, cut into strips, and placed together loosely. It is thrown at the
contestants‘and when the small packages Strike the paper is scattered and
flies all over those engaged in the good
natured scrainble, making them appear quite ludicrous. It isa perfectly
harmless sport and affords great
amusement. It was one of the leading
attractions on the last night of the re
cent Street Fair at Sacramento and ;
also at the Oakland Carnival. When
the pelting gets lively many funny
scenes are witnessed, and every one
enters into the spirit of the occasion.
The confetti will be for sale by the
merchants as well as on the streets.
Tharsday night will be one of much
merriment.
