Ed and Paul R chards left today for San Francisco to spend a two weeks’ vacation. W. S. McIutire, Wm. McGregor and Wu. Nisbet went up on to-day’s Washington stage. F. X. Becker, a pioneer resident, hotelkeeper and merchant of Howland Flat, is here today. T. H. Hicks, millman at the Plumbago, returned today to the mine after a few days’ visit with his family here. Mrs. John Richards went. to Washington today to visit. her sister, Mrs. Austin, and her brother, John Walsh. Mrs. A.M. Dobbie of North Bloomfield is visiting Wm. H. Crawford’s family at this city. She arrived last evening. Major Heuer of the U. 8 Debris Commission and John Martin of the Yuba Power Company passed through town yesterday. Mrs. P. Rosalie Shipley arrived here last evening from Oakland ‘and went to Camptonville on to-day’s Sierra county stage. George R. Tuttle, W. L. Ducey, Geo. F. Miles, Harry J. York and Albert York went up country on to-day’s Sierra county stage, Mrs. C. Skehan has returned to San Francisco after a visit with the Shurtleff family. Little Verda Shurtleff went down with her. R. C. Wilson, a railroad man who has a ran between Oakland and Stockton, . went today to Relief Hill to spend his vacation with relatives. Marshal Petitt, a prominent educator of Chicago who used to reside in Sierra county, went up country on to-day’s North Bioomfield stage. Miss Etta Steinegger, a student at the Cooper Medical College in San Francisco, arrived bere last evening on a visit to her brother Robert. Bert Ivey of this city and ex-Pestmaster B. 0. Morgan of Grass Valley leave this week on atwo weeks’ camping excursion in the mountains. Miss Myra Ostrom, who bas been in charge of the millinery department of Wm. H. Crawford’s store, returned today to her home at North Bloomfield: Capt. P. T. Riley, who is now practicing law in Sau Francisco, has been spending a few days at Grass Valley. He visited the county seat Saturday night. J. Levy of Diamond Springs accompanied by his daughter, Miss May Levy, and by Miss Viola Kleininbuarg of San Francisco are visiting at Grass Valley and this city. Mrs. Wm. Reynolds of this city, Mrs. Sexton’ of San Francisco and Mrs. Richard Trathen of,Grass Valley went to Washington today on a visit. They will return tomorrow. Rev. J. T. Murrish, formerly. pastor of the Methodist church at this city and now located at Placerville, has been honored by the conferring of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy upon him by the trustees of Franklin college, New Athens, Ohio.
