Samuel Allison has been bothered considerably of late by parties stealing fruit from his orchard on the Washington road: He engaged a man to watch the orchard, armed with a shotgun, in order to prevent the thieves from carrying off the fruit as fast as it ripened. Last night the parties visited the orchard and by the aid of lights proceeded to help themselves to the fruit. The man on watch ordered them off, but instead of leaving they began throwiog stones at him, whereupon he fired at them, which caused them to depart rather suddenly. The gun was loaded with bird shot and ‘it is not known whether any of them, were hurt. Hereafter the watchman will have who visit the orchard to steal fruit will be . : in danger of being crippled if he finds them there.
