ik / +, THE TRANSCRIPT. Pabjished erry eTHotsays By BROWN & CALKI NS. T. 8, CALKING, §, P. BROWSE, TUESDAY,.... JULY 11, 1899. The French are making prodigious efforts to build warships as quickly as their British rivals, and it seems that they have already surpassed them, for they have twice built a battleship within a period of six or seven months. As, however, these ships have to wait a year after being built before they can undergo their steam trials, and another year before they can receive their guns, England is not worrying. A servaut: of the late Prince Bismarck, named Robfig, who for the last eight years had cut the Iron Chancellor’s hair, kept the locks by permission, and is now trying to sell them: He finds difficulty in persuading the German public that his relics are genuine, owing to the widespread tradition established by the caricaturists that Bismarck had only three hairs on the top of his head. The school children of New Albany, Ind., have become so-fascinated with the game of craps that parents have appealed to the police to break up the games. CO ———— “See the instructive value of little things; the last straw broke the camel’s back” “Yes; why didn’t somebody keep it to tickle the elephant with?” “I conie to steel,” said the humorous rat. “Pleased to welcome you,” replied the matter-of-fact steel trap, as it sprang to embrace the newcomer. She—I wouldo’t marry you if you were the last man on earth. He—You wouldn’t get,a chance. I'd surely have my pick then. A Watertown, N. Y., peddier has been sent to jail for four months because he kissed a child without permission being first obtained. _—_+-280> —__——_——— % Charles Dorr of San Francinde has a wonderful memory.
