His death is indeed a hard and uoexpected blow to his femily, who will mourn the loss of a kind husband and indulgent father. Dana Harmon was well cadea to. ~ Nevada countyans, having for many years been engsged in mining enterprises in this section. About twelve years ago Mr. Harmon became interested with a company at the Bay in the opening up of the Gaston Ridge Consolidated Mining Co.’s property, in Eureka township, this county, and it has been principally through his indefatigable efforts and skill as a mining engineer that this property was developed from @ mere prospect claim to a first-class mine and one of the best gold producers in Nevada county. Beside the Gaston Ridge mine, Mr. Harmon also successfully superintended the development of the California and German mines, which are a!so properties of the Gaston Ridge Co. About a year ago he» resigned the superintendency of the Gaston Ridge Co, and lately has been engaged in orgenizing a company to lease and work the famous oid Yuba mine, io Washington townsbip. Mr. Harmon had all arrangements practically completed to this end when his enterprise _ and ambition was suddenly checked by gthe icy hand of Death. As a. mining engineer he had few if any superiors. and in his death this county has snetained a great loss. As a friend he will be deeply mourned by hosts of people in this section who esteemed him highly and admired his fine traite of. manly character. Mr. Harmon’s family resided on Broad street, this city, for a long time, and made hosta, of friends who.-sincerely sympathize with them in their sad bereavement. The deceased was 565 years of age and an honored member of the Masonic fraternity, being @ prominent member of Nevada Commandery, No, 6, Knights Templar, of this city. The large and profitable production of metallic. copper by a number of mines. {n the Lake Superior region has been a powerful stimulant to the deep ex: -ploration of mines” in that’ district. Not all of these. enterprises have proven all that had been hoped. for them, but a fair percentage have been said that with great depth the copper-bearing: conglomerates . show values than near the surface, but it has not yet proven that this fg not merely a local condition, and that an improvement may not occur ‘at still greater depth.
