Some days ago a 200-pound new anvil, ,Which was being hauled from this city to the Brunswick mine on Gus Davenport’s wagon, rolled off into the read, The teamster was unable to put the heavy anvil -baek into the wagon, which was loaded with lumber, so he dragged it to one side of the: road and drove on to the mine, about a mile distant. Upon going back the anvil had dis‘appeared, and although diligent inquiry and search has been made for it no trace of it can be found. We have heard of people atealing a red-hot stove,: but this tlieft of the anvil is even worse. Whoever’ took it doubtless had a wagon, or else hid it to await a favorable opportunity to get away with their “find.” Mr. Davenport will pay a reward of $10 for the retara of the anvil to the Brunswick mine or to the Miners Foundry in.this city, / Sales on Hind. The Valley Papers Making Capital Out of That Case, The-valley papers have considerable to say about the case which was recently tried here, and the Marysville Democrat has this to say about it: In the Superior Court of Nevada county an important suit has just been decided, which'though carrying only nominal damages, is another reminder that no person has the right to conduct an occupation iu such manner that it will injure the property of another. M, Manion resides about two miles southwest of Grass Valley and owns property adjacent to Deer Creek. Maltmaa & Thompson, own sulphurets works a short distance above of the same stream. Manion complained that the use of acids and the running of reftise from the mill into the stream damaged his‘ property. In his complaint he claimed to have lost stock which had drank of the water in the creek, also had. sustained other losses for whieh He asked $5,000 damages. The jury visited. the premises and examined the works, as well as plaintiff's farm below, and then after hearing the evidence brought in a verdict for $1.00 damages. Here, then, is a case that was tried in a district where hydraulic mining has as strong advocates as any place in the State. The jury were men Who would favor that sys— tem of mining if they could do so conscientiously, but they could not in justice and fairness ignore the matter of personal rights laid down. in this case, There is nothing new in-the facts: here recited, as all of the points have heen gone over-in court . during the several law. proceedings resulting from an effort to enjoin certain hydraulie mines, Mr. Manion occupies the same position in law that the people of the valley who own property adjacent to the Yuba river and other streams, If Maltman & Thompson should be restrained from polluting Deer Creek, it may be conceded that the owners of hydraulic mines should be prohibited.to dump deleterious matter into the streams, unless the same is cared for in such a way as to not cause material injury. Grass Valley Boys. A San Francisco correspondent of the Tidings says : ‘ Jules F, Brady is in the Cashier's office at Wells Fargo & Co's, ‘John Terrill is in the Auditing department of Wells, Fargo & Co, John (Jack) Carter, who has been employed at the Risdon Iron Works for some years, has gone to Jackson, Amador oounty, to accept a position as engineer in a mine, Theodore Kohler, who is with the California Rattan Company manufacturer of Baby Carriages, etc., has struck a lively -occupation. A friend of his remarks: ‘People will make babies, even in dull times,” W. WDeamer, a former Grass Valley boy, is now practicing law and is a member of the firm of Garber, Boalt and Bishop. He is always ready to welcome a Grass Valleyan at his office. His firm recently received the fat fee of $7000 from the Hendy estate, : : cP 6 Oe-o Nothing Strange. Intelligent people, who realize the important part the blood holds in keeping the body in a normal conditien, find nothing strange in the number of diseases that Hood’s Sarsaparilla is able to cure. So many troubles result from impure blood that the best way to treat them is through the blood, and it is far better to use only harmless vegetable compounds than to dose to excess with quinine, calomel and other drugs. By treating the blood, with Hood’s Sarsaparilla, scrofula, salt rheum and what are commonly called ‘*humors;” dyspepsia, catarrh, rheumatism, neuralgia, consumption and other troubles that originate in impurities of the blood or impaired circulation, can all be cured, — 00+ Prosperous Auburn. Quite a large delegation went from this city to Grass Valley Saturday evening to witness the display of fireworks that were saved over from the 4th of July. You ought to be able to because you live in it. This world is the biggest curiosity shop that we have known anything abcut up to date. Jupitér or Saturn may be able to discount it. Perhaps, and perhaps not. It is pretty full of people who are continually tinkeriug with themselves—patching themselves up—aso to speak, in a medicinal way, If they are constipated, bilious or dyspeptic they rush to the ncarcsy druggist for a violent purgative. If they are inalarious they fly for relief to that ancient but ineffectual re:liance—the sulphate of quinine. It looks now as though there will be no .
