ALLISON RANCH DIGGINGS -— located on Wolf Creek, 2 miles below GV; named for
a farmer before the gold deposits were discovered; struck in 1852; in
1858 the yield was estimated at 1.5 million dollars; HIT p41,77.
Listed as Allison Ranch Quartz Mill, 3 miles south of GV in 1861
DIR.
ALPHA town of, settled in 1852, by Charles Phelps & _., McVey; pl5 B&D.
postoffice established April 12, 1855 with A. J. Alston postmaster,
(discontinued September 4, 1862 and moved to town of Washington) HB
Vol 12 #3; town burned twice, T&W p92; 2 miles southeast of Washington
near Scotchman Creek; Historic Landmark 628.

DEM October 28, 1857: A. J. Alston of the firm of Alston, Newman
& Co in Nevada is listed among the missing fran the ill-fated steamer
Central America.
Alston, A. L. — DEM December 1, 1858 p2cl: A. L. Alston of the late firm of
J. B. Newman & Co. of this city is leaving by steamer for his former
home in the Atlantic States.
NT January 24, 1865 p3cl: An Old Nevadan. Arthur L. Alston, an
old resident of Nevada, has been heard from. He was formerly in
Ccopartnership with John B. Newman, in the clothing business, in this
city. He left this place in 1860 for the purpose of settling up same
business in Georgia, designing to return to California at an early
day. But before he could get ready to return, the rebellion commenced
and he was conscripted into the rebel army and forced to fight against
the government. On the 17th of July he was taken prisoner in front of
Petersburg, and sent to Elmira, New York. He inquires of Crenshaw,
Phil. Moore and others that he left in this city, and signifies his
determination to take the oath of allegiance, and return to this State
as soon as he can get enough money to pay his passage. He asks his old
friends to assist him, as he is in destitute circumstances.
