MILL; personal property consisting of notes and capital invested at
Bridgeport Township.

Day, Thomas H. with Leighton, Kent and Thomas worked in saw mill in GV;
took part pay in lumber and built a store which was the first house of
sawed wood construction in GV; first miners meeting was held there in
fall of 1850 laws were passed regulating size and right of claims,
and also the size of town lots; T&W p64.
Days, John M. GVU July 1, 1869 p3cl: Republican candidate for the State
Assembly at the primary election of July 10, 1869; resident of Grass
Valley; native of England, has served in the County Collector's office
and one term in the Assembly; strong party man.
Days, Woolberton native of Dunkirk, New York and was the first white child
born in Chautauqua county; At age 12 he was sent to St. Mary's College
in Baltimore to study for the priesthood. After 3 years he ran away
and shipped for Rio de Janeiro, where he was employed to care for the
Emperor of Brazil, then but one year old. He left this employment in
1831 and returned to Baltimore. In 1836 he shipped as a Hospital
Steward on the South Sea Exploring Expedition of Commodore Wilkes.
After being shipwrecked landed at Yerba Buena, (San Francisco) in
1840.
Arrived in CA September 29, 1849 settled eight miles fran GV and
four miles from Colfax; TsW p216. (This was the site of what is now
Chicago Park, Nevada County.)
De Bour, John F. arrived in Nevada County February 15, 1850; fran
Galveston, Texas; settled in North Bloomfield; NCR;
DIL'56 DEM December 17, 1856 p4cl: Eureka Township, ranch near
head of Humbug Canon and personal property; valuation $1,300.
