Delano, continued: vast abundance. The mountain air and the mountain fish have wrought miracles in the health of both. NI September 26, 1862 p3cl: Delano's Circular. "Old Block" gives the industrious people of the County an enlivening blast from his bugle in the TRANSCRIPT to-day. We trust it will stir the blood of our culturists and wake then up to a sense of their worth as citizens of the State. It is only by comparing the products of section, and exchanging ideas on cultivation, that the virtues of our climate and soil will be fairly understood. We hope the people of the County will answer all "Old Block's" questions satisfactorilly to him at Sacramento. (Refering to p2c2 of TRANSCRIPT. ) NT May 4, 1866 p3c2: Interesting. "Old Block" (A. Delano of GV) has recently visited Nicaragua, where he received the kindest treatment from the people. His descriptions of the country and the people are given in a series of letter to the SACRAMENTO UNION. They are very interesting, as is everything fram the pen of "Old Block". NT April 8, 1868 p2cl: Fram Nicaragua. Mr. A. Delano, on Saturday received a chocolate service, as a present fran Mr. H. Gottel, editor of "The Future of Nicaragua." The service was gotten up at Rivas, says the GV UNION, and consists of cups nearly carved from the native calabash and set upon bottoms of beautiful, wood handsomely polished. These bottoms are specimens of what the country produces in the shape of valuable wood. The whole set is decidedly unique and ornamental, and Old Block says to a chocolate drinker it is invaluable, since the beverage tastes from these cups as it can from no other kind. The cups were carved by an Indian woman, who used only a pen-knife, and she has executed the coat of arms of Nicarague, a likeness of the American Eagle, pictures of churches, and a view of a volcano with wonderful skill. Another good part of the present is a large amount of fresh and genuine chocolate made in Rivas for the express purpose of a presentation to Old Block. NI February 4, 1873: A. Delano speaks on mines in mining review. NI February 19, 1873: Column by A. Delano "Is GV played out?" NI April 17, 1873: Old Block struck ledge on New York Hill. NI April. 19, 1873: Editorial Old Block on the mines. NI August 29, 1873: A. Delano married to Miss Maria Harmon of Truckee. NI March 10, 1874 p3cl: New York Hill. Alonzo Delano, the banker at Grass Valley, same time since bought at Sheriff's sale, the mining property known as New York Hill. The mine has been a very productive one, but like many around this city, it failed to ke remunerative, and of course became involved and was allowed to be sold. Mr. Delano, with his usual energy, has prosecuted work on the mine, and we learn the prospects are good for it again assuming its place among first class mines. There are many such ledges in the county that await the enterprise of capitalists to open them, when they will pay. Expired in GV September 8, 1878.
