his home was located on South Church Street; he was mine superintendent and principal owner of the Maryland Mine, and consolidated the
Idaho into the property; expired July 1917, age 90; was a native of
New Orleans, Louisana.

Douglas, James Achilles In March 1852, with three others went to German
Bar on the Middle Yuba River where they had a good supply of water and
followed mining; news reached them of a new place called the Minnesota
Diggings, where 5000 people congregated within 10 days after the

Downey, George DEM August 20, 1856 plc4: Loss in the July 19, 1856 fire,
$1,000.
NI August 17, 1873 p2c3: George Downey. The VIRGINIA CITY
(NEVADA) CHRONICLE speaking of the suicide says: Mr. Downey was an old
resident of Nevada, where he has held public offices from time to time
the last of which was Chief of Police, which office he filled to the
entire satisfaction of the community. Mr. Downey was also a member of
the fire department, having been foreman of the Hook and Ladder Co.
for several years. As a fireman he had few equals in the department.
His good judgment and long experience in fire matters made him a great
favorite with his brother firemen. Mr. Downey had his life insured in
the New York Mutual for $2,500. Fram the statement of friends of the
deceased, we learn that Mr. Downey had been laboring under great
mental excitement for some time past, and was considerably embarrassed
in business, that together with the injuries received by his son,
appear to have prayed upon his mind to an alarming extent..etc. He
was a native of Jefferson County, Ohio. He was 42 years of age and
leaves a wife and six small children to mourn his untimely death.
