One by one the early settlers of Nevada County are being gathered to their long hame. Their ranks have been rapidly decimated of late years, and before another decade has elapsed these heroes of bygone days will most of them live only in the memories of the succeeding generations. E. W. Avery, who died in this city on Tuesday of pneumonia, was born in New Jersey in 1810, and came here in 1851. Shortly after arriving he erected the Nevada Hotel, and conducting its business for same time. He then removed to Crystal Springs, remaining there for several years. he afterwards returned to this city, and for the past thirteen or fourteen years has made Nevada his permanent abiding place. He was a man of quiet but agreeable ways, generous disposition and marked convictions; therefore a good citizen and desirable neighbor. He leaves an aged wife of 65 years, to whom he had been married nearly 46 years, but had no children. He was uncle to E. W. Avery, Jr., of this city, and brother-in-law to Mrs. J. B. Gray. The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock P. M. today, from the family residence on Spring Street. (Lot 5 Block 38 MAP) Isaac —DEEDS Book 6 p531 Isaac Avery et al to So.
