FRENCH CORRAL name fram an old station erected in 1849 there; mining early
in 1852; town commenced in spring 1852; July 8, 1853, 70 houses, 50
were destroyed by fire; town rebuilt after another fire in May 1854;
B&D pl4; TsW p62 located at foot of south side of San Juan Hill; got
its name fron a Frenchman who built a corral for his mules; postoffice
established in 1852; at one time had the largest Chinatown in the
West; burned again in 1854.

FRENCH HOTEL Ad NJ Sept. 13, 1851: Broad Street in NC.
FRENCH LIQUOR STORE DEM February 2, 1859 p3c2: operated by C. H. Meyer
& Co. in fireproof brick building at 76 Broad Street.
French, Lorin DEEDS Book 1 pl37 Lorin French and Stephen Stephens to
Isaiah C. Harmer, recorded September 10, 1856 (refers to August 23,
1855): ORIENTAL HOTEL on lot of the Nevada Hotel; east side of Main
Street between property of George Kinney, the tinner and Barber Shop;
40 rods fram the bridge on Deer Creek. Hotel is 33' in front; the
same conveyed by Henry Gardiner to Lorin French and Stephen Stephens;
out buildings are one stable, and a hay house.
