Mr. Griffiths was aroused from his
slumbers about 2 o’elock with a fit of:
coughing and a oboking sensation,
on the electric light, and found that
the room-was full of smoke. He pulled
on his pants, grabbed his shoes in his
band, and. his. first. thought. being of
hie mother’s picture, he rashed into
the front room to save it. As be started to turn on the electric light, he saw
that the ‘ wall surrounding the electric
awitch was all ablege, and he. secured
‘his mother’s picture, and started for
the back door, but the smoke was so
thick that be could not find it, and he
retarned and went out a side door.
Mr. Griffiths’ then slipped on his
ehoes and started to find some one to
turn in an alarm, but Morris Green; a
neighber, had been awakened by the
crackling of the flames, and had
turned in an alarm in the meanwhile.
Mr. Green and Mr. Griffithe then
turned streams of water from their
garden hose onto the residence of Mr.
Green, which caught fire three or four
times, and kept it from getting much
of a start until the Prospect Hill fire
boys arrived, when the lade got to
work with the skill of old fire fighters
and saved the building. As it was,
all the windews on the side of the
house next to Griffiths’, were broken;
by.the heat. The roof of A. Ohmert’s
fesidence, on the other side of the
Griffiths’ home, caught fire also, but
the Prospect Hill boys turned their at1 teotion to it, and: soon had that blaze.
