Martin is announced as a candidate for Assessor on the Democratic ticket. There is considerable sickness among fruit. The ice cream social given at Silva’s Hall ThE LATEST, oe A New Rule Has Been Adopted by the Railroad Company--All Quiet in the Eastern States. Special to DaiLy Transcript. SacraMENto, July 16th. Several gangs of men who were formerly employed at the Railroad shops in this city, and went out when the strike was declared, returned to work this mérning under the CAVED ON, Harry Shearer Badly Hurt at the taken above as carefully as possible and from there was carried on a stretcher to his home on Broad street, a few doors above the Theater, arriving shortly before 12 o’elock. Dr. Muller was summoned to attend the case. Shearer has-been married about three weeks and his wife is also sick abed. He isa member of the Masons and Odd Fellows and is well thought of by his numerous acquaintances, who regret to learn of the accident, This afternoon Drs. Hunt and Muller performed the operation of trephining a small portion of Shearer’s skull; which was found to be fractured and pressing on the brain An examination also showed that there isa slight dislocation of the backbone.
