A good, ablebodied Mexican is supposed to be well paid when he gets fifty cents per day in the “white metal” and at the end of the day he can buy twenty-five pounds of corn with his day’s wages. Some of us might be too old to enjoy it by that time. False Statement. The statement. is’ frequéntly heard upon the streets that silver change is scarce, and this is used as an argument in favor of the free and unlimited coinage of silver. It is just as well to tell the truth about the matter. A representative of the Record-Union yesterday made a thorough investigation and found that silver is scarce only because people will not carry it. It accumulates in the banks all the time and they* are compelled to ship it back to the United States sub-Treasury at San Francisco at their own expense, During the past three months there has been thus sent to San Francisco over $75,000 from the banks in this city alone. — RecordUnion. For}. uy hia hee Te 58 to grant the application, and instructed the Olerk to have an agreement drawn up, which was done, but this paper has
not been signed by Mr. Buckley and from present indications never will be. Buckley, a short time ago, rented to other parties the privilege to erect a refreshment stand on part of the lot. After the parties started to build they were notified by the Marshal to stop and informed that Buckley had no right to rent to them. The refusal of Mr. Buckley to refund the rental has led to a suit being brought against him by the parties. The Trustees hold ‘that Buckley has no rights in the premises, for the reason that he has failed to sign the agreement. Buekley claims that when his proposition was accepted by the Board in April last he virtually entered into: possession. . He now desires the Board’ to make the minytes of the April meeting a part of the contract, after which. he is willing to sign it. The Trustees now as though the matter will be ‘dropped. . ; Should Buckley refuse to accept the terms of the written agreement the Board will probably cancel it and let a contract to build the stone wall. Mr. Buckley is building his private wall and:expects to have it completed in a couple of months. He has men engaged blasting out rock from the old Gorl lot on Bowlder street. DURST THE MAN, Chosen by the Supervisor's to Succeed John ¢. White, Appeal: There was very little busi-ness brought before the Board of Supervisors yesterday but what there was, was of more than ordinary importance to the people of Yuba and her sister county, Sutter. After all the members had answered the roll-call Supervisor McGuire introduced the following resolution: Resolved, That D. P. Durst, of Wheatland, be employed by this Board at a salary not to exceed the sum of $300 per month in consideration of his securing by himself, or his agents, or employes, such evidence that will tend to prevent further injury of the property and interests of the county from the dumping of hydraulic mining debris into the rivers to the injury of the property of this county, and taking such proceedings as the Board may direct from time to time. All forifier resolutions pertaining to appropriations on mining debris be and the same are hereby rescinded. The resolution was adopted by the votes of Chairman Atkinson and Supervisor McGuire. and Irwin. Supervisors Conrath and Mallon voted no, The resolution, speaks for itself, and the discussion regarding the appointment of a suitable man to represent Yuba county’s interests in this direction, is now practically at end, One of the Prize Winners. Frank G. Beatty, formerly of this city, was among .the winners in the Examiner’s mystery story contest, entitled “Under Three Flags.” He was one of the ninety who. each received a small prize.
