The wonderful uplift received from the association with these 1500 -workers in the one great cause of helping to make the world better, and the deeper and truer realization of the great and precious constituency which we represent, the boys and girls of the world, helped in no small measure to prepare as fo receive the wondrous benefits which came, Coming on from Denver, over that wonderful scenic road, the Rio Grande, we spent several days in taking side trips to Marnton, Garden of the Goda, Pike’s Peak, Glenwood Springs and . Salt Lake City, all of which were remarkable and inspiring. So, after all, it was with no small amount of preparation and anticipation that we reached Monida, Montana, astation on the Oregen Short Line Railroad, 7,000 feet above the sea level, which was the starting pluce for a coach ride of 297 miles through the park. ra : : Yellowstone Park is in the heart of the Rocky mountains, away up in the north-west corner of Wyoming, running over a few miles into Montana on the north and Idaho and Montana on the west. It is a National reservation and comprises an area of 65 by 75 square miles, so on entering from Monida we went in on the west side. An early start was made and after a drive of seventy-two miles, stopping ‘about half way for luncheon at Lake View, we reached Grayling Inn at 6:30 the same evening. The high altitude, cold bracing air bere and all through the trip was noticable and enjoyable. Early in our ride the next morning we came to Ohristmas Tree Park, then onin through Riverside Military Station, to the Fountain Hotel, the first stopping place in the Park, situated in Lower Geyser Basin, We reached here about noon, finding a large and nicely appointed hostelry, well located end—facingtoward-thegeyser. Our} party lost no time in exploring the situation and were well repaid by our first sight of the geysers. It ia utterly impossible to-describe. this wondrous land, as it impresses each one differently, but in summing up general expressions and impressions, I can truly say that we were all better men and women for having had these opportunities and felt a nearer kinship to God, our Father, in beholding these anknowable workings of His band. The Fountain geyser, which is the prominent one of this group, has a crater which is about 80 feet in diame ter, We were fortunate in seeing several eruptions, which occur every two or four hours, and continue to throw the boiling water from fifteen to sixty feet into the air, for ten to fifteen minutes. Here also are the mammoth paint pots, quite as marvelous as the geysers, consisting of a massof fine whitish and different colored mud-like substance, which is in a boiling state. It is wonderfully interesting to watch the shape and figures that this assumes and often a beautiful lily or rose appears. A most delightful drive take up the next day, passing through Norris Geyser Basin, where is also found a wonderful formation of a different nature, for here is the “Growler,” a wonderful geyser which broke out last February, and while it does not send its erruptions high into the air it sends forth an immense volume of steam, accompanied by a most awful roar. We are located at the Canyon Hotel for over Sunday and here in the midst of the most sublimely beautiful scenery we rest and worship. The falls of the Yellowstone, while not as broad and tremendous as the Niagara, or of the same height as the Yosemite, are just as beautifal in their way. From -Point Lookout, some distance down river, a most magnificent sight is gained—a silvery lace like mass is falling down 860 feet on either side the high, ragged mountains of yellow stone, make a scene almost imaginable, and yet the half can never be teld. The view of this canyon received from Inspiration Point is said to be unsurpassed by any other in the world. Monday a drive of 80 miles brings us to Yellowstone Lake, a most beautiful body of water 15 by 20 miles in size, the largest at so great an elevation, 7,788 feet, in North America. Here also is a fine hotel and several hours were spent in fisbing,. the lake abounding in salmon trout, and members of our party succeeded in making good catches. The next day at our lunch station, Thamb Bay, we at last bad the opportunity. of verifying the eur at very distant intervals, only 200 feet. there now being about 40 in all. in our minds, ‘tired but happy, regret it. Some of yhe others, Oascade, Beehive, Giant, Giantess, Sponge, Lion, and Lioness and Oubs are wondérfally beautiful and remarkeble, but one of the greatest treats we had was to witness a play, from the Grand, the outburst of which are considered to be the finest in the Park, and octwice before this season had it erapted. There was a series of eruptions lasting from 80 to 40 minutes, discharging the hot flood toa height of I must not forget to speak of the animals. We got a good sight of nambers of bear, a large herd of elk, and the deer were very tame, several times coming near up. to the road. The buffalo roam _on an island, in the lake, During our next day’s drive we visited several keautifal springs, the colorings of which are quite beyond description, the Prismatic and Morning Glory being especially fine, We had also a good sight of the great fountain in action, which we chanced to pass.at this time, the same beauty as witnessed in others was here. We reached Grayling Sun safely and in the morning started for Monida, arriving ‘there at 6:80 o’clock, according to schedule and with the promised thought prominently Now, our Evangel Party was remarkable in. that all parts of the country were represented and we Westerners felt perfectly at home with our friends from the East and South. In our coach, which carried seven, besides the driver; were two--from -New York; one from Ohio, one from Massachusettes one from*. Kansas and the two Californiene, making op one of the most congenial parties that could be imag{ned. We feel very safe in saying go to the Yellowstone and you will never Suifered from Heal J. W.
