The State Republican Central OCommittee has promulgated:the following:
California should be especially loyal
to the Republican party—the party of
‘Our State Government, both of our
Senators and all our members of the
House of Representatives, should be in
political harmony with the ‘National;
Administration.
In issuing the call for the next State
Convention we appeal to the good sense
and patriotism of the ‘people of this}
great State to exhibit such wisdom and’
activity in the coming campaign, including the holding of preliminary caucuses, voting at primary élections, atagement of the campaign to the closing
of the polls on election day, as will
certainly give this desired’ result.
1. A State convention of the Hepa ab.
lican party of the State of California ia
‘hereby called to meet in the city of
Sacramento on the 28d day of August,
1898, at the hour of 1 o’clock p. m., to
nominate candidates for State offices
to.be voted for at the general election
to be held in the State of California on
the 8th day of November, 1898, to select a new State Central Committee
and to transact such other business.as
may be brought before said convention.
2, The appointment of delegates to
said Convention shall be: One dele-/
gate at. large; one delegate for each 200
votes cast for D. BE. McKinley, who received the highest number of. votes
for Republican Presidential Elector in
1896, and one additional delegate for
each fraction of 100 votes, or over, provided that any county in which less
than 200 votes were cast: shall be entitled to one delegate.
8. Delegates chosen ‘to said convention shall also be delegates to the district conventions in the respective districts from which they were selected,

must commence on October 20th.

opened at sunrise and will close at 5.

“RESOLVED, That it is the sense of

only such delegates as are so selected
at such primaries or caucuses shall be
seated in any of the conventions of the
party hereafter to be held.”
4. The several county committees
shall make provision for and have full
control of: primary elections, or can, Rates in accordance with said resolution. In counties having three or
more Assembly districts, primary elec‘tions must be held, and must be held
‘by ‘Assembly districts.
5. The County Committee shall give
' election or caucus for the selection of
delegates to said convention, and must
provide for two voting places and as

was at the upper end of the pipe was

Idle Miners Go Prospecting.
The temporary suspension of work
in some of the Comstock mines has resuited in the idle employes making
daily prospecting trips to nearby mining districts, says Wednesday’s Virginia. Oity Chronicle. A prospecting.

are too small, however, to admit of the

face of the lower tunnel is now down
