Lloyd Tevis was a man who became enormously rich in California and lived out his days here. There are so few of the abnormally rich Californians who are doing it thatit is worth noting. Although one of. the very richest he was. one of the most. unobtrusive. ‘His nameis not connected with any great enterprise. It would appear that he froze onto his money, accumlated by finding safe places for that which he had and piling away the natural acctetion in) new investments. If he was not an enterprising Californian he was a loyal one, in not carrying the money made here off to another state or country, and that is something.—Alameda Argas. 5 2@rHis Mustard Plaster. ‘The mustard is a ‘harmless looking wafer, but it must be handled with as much ” ‘circumspection as & There was a newly married wmian chee whose wife told him to put on a mustard plaster to cure a cold. He had faith in her, and pot iton. Then he went to sleep, being gifted with the power of sleeping under ‘torments which is not given to one man in a thousand. The plaster seemed to him somewhat unreasonably hot, but he argued that the hotter it was the better. Besides, he had confidence in his wife. Next day he found a well developed blister on his chest, and ru only laughed und said she had supposed” any one would have sense to take off a plaster when it nurt him Though that was 11 months ago, the mark of the plaster is still upon the man like a brand, and he now regards ‘his wife’s remedies with suspicion.—New York Feaerce Advertiser. ~ oe Married by Blood.
