ot a\ 3 { 2 Pee s THE DAILY TRANSCRIPT Published Every Evening, except Sunday. WEDNESDAY.... JULY 3, 1895. ter eer meee iene meri eee eccaineianel BROWN & CALKINS, Proprietors. SERVED BY CARRIERS AT 15 Cts. per Week or 60 Cts. per Month WHEN PAID IN ADVANCE : SIX: DOLLARS PER YEAR. THE DAILY TRANSCRIPTS Summarized Mention of Minor Home Happenings, Regular monthly meeting of Pennsylvania ' Engine Company tonight. Henry Lane is having his residence on Nevada street repainted and fixed up, A dance will be given at the schoolhouse in Indian Flat tomorrow evening. Eight jail-birds are now being fed and eared for by Sheriff Douglass and his deputies. ; The Postoffice will be open tomorrow from 11:30 4. M. to 12:30 Pp. M.—that is the géneral delivery window. If you need any fancy groceries for the Fourth of July or any other time, Gaylord can fit you out in short order. ; The stage which runs between this city and Colfax will not make the usual trips tomorrow. : : Constable .Loehr brought Herman Singer up from Grass Valley last evening to serve a term of ten days in the county jail for disturbing the peace. Supervisor D. McPhetres left today for Truckee to spend the Fourth. A celebra. tion will take place there and he isto be President of the Day. _ Severe Penalties. Parties who have been in the habit of sel]ing liquor to Indians should take timely warning from the following sections of the Penal Code of Califorvia: . ; “Every person who sells, or furnishes, or causes to be sold or furnished, intoxicating liquors to any Indian is guilty of a felony.” “The punishment is by imprisonment in the State Prison not exceeding five years,” We also call attention to the following section regarding the furnishing of arms and ammunition to Indians : ‘*Every person who sells or furnishes to any Indian any firearms or ammunition therefor, is guilty of a misdemeanor,” The Rose Hill. Tidings: Reports from tHe Rose Hil] mine are very encouraging. Their new gasoline engine only costs $3.20 per day for crushing 12 tons of ore. Since starting up they have crushed 160 tons of ore, which gave good results. The ontfit is declared to he the neatest, cheapest and most practical mill yet built. The first cost of the mill screens, plates, buildings, foundation, machinery including freight, has been less than $2,200. Thus at a protit of only $6 per ton, less than 400 tons of ore will pay for the entire establishment, The Rose Hill will undoubtedly prove to be a good mine. oo Well Patronized. The report of the librarian of the Nevada City schools shows that the pupils appreciate the school library. The number of volumes read during the past year was 2,258. The library contains but 577 volums, so that it was necessary that some of the books be read a great many times, —— ee To Use Steam Engines, The Republican says: A petition. signed by many citizens of Truckee will be presented to the Board of Supervisors this week asking that they grant Richardson Bros, Co., permission ty use a portion of the county road in hauling)Jumber with steam engines between Lewis’ mil] and Truckee. The Board will undoubtedly grant the request. . 2} More Hobos. — ‘ie Division, No. 16, U. R. K. of P., are requested to meet at Armory’ Hall on Wednesday evening, July 3d, at 8.0’clock.
