He donated 100 pounds of powder to the 4th of July committee, to be. used in firing salutes. A number of tents have been pitched in the y: at Washington schoolhouse, and will be occupied by the military company from Marysville. The yard makes a good camping place. The electric fountain between the Broad and Main street bridges will be in full operation tonight and will be a beautiful sight that everybody will admire The crowded and lively: appearance of the streets last night shows that our people are enthusiastic over the celebration and intend to make the occasion a pleasant one for all visitors. City Marshal Getchell had his squad of twelve policemen rigged up in their uniforms last night and was putting them through the drill at Armory Hali. They will make:a fine appearance tonight and tomorrow. Theexhibition of fireworks from the suspension bridge tomorrow night. will start at a quarter past 8 o'clock. If you wish to have a good view take a position on Sacramento street somewhere or on the bank of the creek below. People who desire to get a good view of the fireworks tomorrow night should station themselves on either Sacramento street or Prospect Hill.The fireworks will be exhibited on the syspension bridge, facing Sacramento street, and will begin shortly after. 8 o’clock, as soon as it becomes dark. The float. that. is being prepared at the Miners Foundry will be one of the most complete and unique displays in the procession tomorrow. It will consist. of a miniature quartz mill in operaation, run by a small steam engine, all mounted on a nicely painted wagon and roofed over in good manner. The mill will crush quartz while the float is moving along in the procession. Delegations from different places in the%ipper part of -the county arrived here yesterday. Today many more'persons came in and tomorrow people will pour into town from all directions. Word has been received that about 100 persons can be expected here tonight from Marysville, including the military from Sacramento and other points on the railroad will swell the crowd to at least 150 or 200. Will Test It. Two gentlemen of this city were discussing the other day~-the_ newspaper report regarding the sale of an old sulphurets works to the Selby Smelting Works. One of the gentlemen remarked that the sum stated as being realized by the purchasers was greatly exaggerated. The other gentlemen said he knew something.about the transac: tion in question, and had heard from ets works mentioned netted the purchasers_a magnificent sum. ‘To test the accuracy of the statement he proposes to send 100 samples from a richer and older sulphurets works to the. 8: Columbia College School of Mines, and have assays made.
