SATURDAY JULY 6, 1895. Telephone No. 4. \ Grass Valley Mines. [Telegraph] In company with Superintendent Dap Goflin we took a ride to the Electric mine and were shown some excellent ore taken from levels two and three. The rock was rich in sulphurets and many pieces! shown us contained free gold almost bordering on to what might be termed ‘‘specimen”’ ore, The Electric mine is a fixed fact, the ledge being large and rich, : David and_.Wm. Bryant have bonded their splendid place toa French syndicate and for a largesum. 'The ranch besides being in ahigh state of cultivation, adjoins the Maryland and Independence mines and it is‘an assured fact that the great Idaho ledge runs through the Bryant place. A new mine ~has ben located below the Lime Kiln in the Grass Valley mining district and active work has been commenced on jt. They are down 7( feet and the ledge shows gold. The company. is. composed of Grass Valley and Wheatland people. The prospects are very encouraging and money has already been paid on the bond. oo Now a Fine Road. The upper road leading from this city to Grass Valley is now in excellent condition, probably better than it has been for the past decadé. Commencing at the head of ‘the short grade on Piety Hill, near Cooper” Bros. tumber yard, a continual stretch of good roadway is traversed until the summit is reached, the bed being as solid asa rock and the surface nearly as smooth as the proverbial plate. Descending the slope on the other side of the sum‘mit the highway is, not quite up to the -other portion in point of evenness but is far superior to what it formerly was. It is now gratifying to ride over this thoroughfare and every evening’ many equestrians avail themselves of . the pleasure affored hy a spin over the hill. aes Methodist Church. He will go to San Francisco at once for treatment by an occulist. Standard, Must Respect the Law. — The United Staies Debris Commission, has: ordered that~a suit be commenced against the owner of the Concord Hydraulic mine, Plumas county, to obtain a perpetual injunction to restrain him from operating the works. The Commissioners claim that they have ample proof that the provisions of thie Caminetti law have been violated. Suit will be commenced in the U. S. District Court, under provision of Section 22 of the law, known as the penalty ‘clause, which provided that any person or persouy, company or corporation, who shall-mine by the hydraulic process in violation of the provisions of this act shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine not exceeding $5,000, or by imprisonment not exceeding one year, or by both such fine and imprisonment, in the discretion of the Court. Good Reason For It. The Tidings says: ‘here were no.arrests in Grass Valley ou.the 4th of July, and, strange to relate, not a single alarm of fire. These two facts regarding a 4th of July celebration are almost unprecedented. There a very good reason for such a state of affairs. The weather was tvo bad for drunks and they knew it. If a fire had started the rain stcrm would have soon knocked it out without the aid of the firemen. : So ee Mistaken Economy. Mistaken economy caused a very serious accident in the Smartsville claim last Moaday. James Dewan had two holes to charge and only sufficient fuse for one. He cut the fuse in two pieces to serve for -both holes. These when lighted did not give him time to get out of harm:s reach, so he was caught by the blast and badly cut about the body. But the most severe-is at the lower part of. the Back from which several large — of rock were extracted, ——-—_—_ +e League of Progress. State Organizer Putman was made an honorary member of the Council. ———+ +@e+—A Boy and a Pistol. Yesterday afternoon an accident occurred to a Grass. Valley lady which might have culminated. fatally and all through the carelessness of a boy. The little son of Mrs. Thomas Tippett, who resides on Colfax avenue, had been given a toy pistol and in some unaccountable way had obtained a eartridge which fit one of the chambers. He was in the act of raising the weapon. to illustrate how it was discharged when it went off, the bullet penetrating his mother’s right temple and lodging in a. bone back of the ear, severing an artery. Dr. C. W. Jones was called and rendered the necessary assistance, ee ee Svurrers from chills and fever, who have used quinine as a remedy, will appreciate Ayer’s Ague Cure, This preparation, if taken according to directions, is warranted a sure cure. No. 4 Is About Used Up. The stuffed eagle Which the firemen of this city had perched upon the top of the ladders on their 4th of July float, has been used as a crowning piece in 4th of July decorations for the past twenty years, but has probably been used’ for such a purpose for the last time. While the procession was moving down Neal street on Thursday the eagle’s beak became hooked on an electric wire and the proud bird of freedom was in’ imm'ne it danger of being yanked into’ the] sweetsby-and-by, when Al Snell scaled one of the ladders and removed the wire. The emblem of liberty was braced up and all went well until he came in contact with an overhanging branch of a shade tree on Auburn street, which nearly knocked him off his perch. Again the bird was righted and held his position during the-rest of the parade. If we remember rightly, the eagle in question was killéd near Webber Lake many years ago by W. R. Coe, formerly of this city, who was out with a camping party in that locality. Mr. Coe brought the bird home, had Ira Eaton (now deceased) stuff it and then presented -it to. Nevada’ Hose Company, No, 1, of which Mr. Coe was a Originally the bird was a fine specimen of.the bald eagle, but his beauty and symmetry -have gone, eO@e-o—— To sinks the hair grow a natural color, prevent baldness, and’ keep the scalp healthy, Hall’s Hair Renewer-was invented, and has proved itself successful. 4-96 $100 Reward, 100. The reader of this paper will be pleased to learn that there is at least’ one dreaded’ disease that science has been able to cure in all its stages, and that is Catarrh. Hall’s Catarrh Cure is the only positive cure known to the medical fraternity. Catarrh being a constitutional disease, requires a constitutional treatment. Hall’s Catarrh Cure is taken internally, acting directing on the blood and mucous surfaces of the system, thereby destroying the foutdation of the disease, and giving the patient strength by building up the constitution and assisting nature in doing its work. The: proprietors have so much faith in its curative powers, that they offer One Hundred Doliars for any case that it fails to cure. Send for list of testimonial. Address, F, J. CHENEY & CO., Toledo, O &@ ~ old by Druggists, 75c. pete eee Vee eee The Point of the Pistol Is an effectual persuader, and there are many persons so unminded of the symptoms of oncoming disease that it would almost take that deadly argument to induce them to adopt precautionary measures. The best of these is a recourse to that fine botanic restorer, Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters. It vanquishes malaria, rheumatism, kidney and bladder trouble, failing digestion, biliousness and irregularity of the bowels, and completely fortifies the system against their further inroads, Its ingredients are drawn from nature’s storehouse, consequently it is free from the objections attaching to many absolutely or semi-mineral remedies, For the delicate, infirm, convalescent and elderly it is peculiarly beneficial. It well merits continuous and systemtic use. Take it at bed time to induce sleep, and between meals to stimulate appetite and digestion. The
medical fraternity concur in indorsing it. Mrs. T.S, Higa. Cattanooga, Tenn., says, ‘‘Shiloh’s Vitalizer ‘SAVED MY LIFE,’ I consider it the best remedy for a debilitated system I ever used,”’ For Dyspepsia, Liver or Kidney trouble it excels, Price 75 cts.
