Whether this is because there isn’t any

The American Bridge Company is
one of the most recent trusts that has
been formed. It already has a com.

Steel Company, which has just been incorporated at Baltimore.
Almost everytime Roosevelt has accepted a new job his friends have ueclared that be wes goiug into obscurity,
but each time he has shown his ability to get a good deal of fame and fun
out of the office. So will it probably
be with the Vice Presidency.
The Republican platform should be
read in conjunction with the actions of
Congress and the speeches of Senators
Wolcott, Lodge and Fairbanks. Together these furnish an epitome of
what the Republicans have done and
will do.
They have got a rarely intelligent

December a decree was issued that all Cisco on a visit, arrived here this morn. Arti
dogs must be muzzled, and muzzled
they were throughout the blizzards
and sleets of the past six months
Now, ‘he order has been rescinded and
the dogs will be free to bite as they
choose until the summer is over
Thus every dog will have his dog-day.
The mercy and generosity of the
President were never more strikingly
shown than jo bis proclamation of am
nesty to the Filipinos who have beat
in rebellion. None are excepted save
those who have violated the laws ot
war. The President bas bitterly reGretted the necessity of making war
upon those people and did so only be
cause it was his duty. Had he failed
to execute this, one can imagine the
torrent of denunciation which the
Democrats would have poured out upon him.

Should Be Stopped.
It seems strange that more missionaries should be allowed to sail for
China in the face of the murderous
Boxer outbreak. It is surely folly,
and there people should be stopped.
There are about twenty now in New
York ready to sail, They net only
take their lives in their hands in going
on such ‘a mission: ander the present
exciting circumstances, but to go at
this time will simply add ‘fuel to the
flames in the disturbed empire.
One Way It Is Done.
San Joaquin county shows an increase in assessable Froperty over last
year of $750,000. The Board of Equalization of that county raised the Sunset Telephone Company from $8,000 to

stores in Stockton were raised from 20
to 40 per cent over the assessment
