The American Bridge Company is one of the most recent trusts that has been formed. It already has a com. petitor in the Struc:ural Iron and Steel Company, which has just been incorporated at Baltimore. Almost everytime Roosevelt has accepted a new job his friends have ueclared that be wes goiug into obscurity, but each time he has shown his ability to get a good deal of fame and fun out of the office. So will it probably be with the Vice Presidency. The Republican platform should be read in conjunction with the actions of Congress and the speeches of Senators Wolcott, Lodge and Fairbanks. Together these furnish an epitome of what the Republicans have done and will do. They have got a rarely intelligent f Godfrey, who have been to San Francity government in Washington. None are excepted save those who have violated the laws ot war. The President bas bitterly reGretted the necessity of making war upon those people and did so only be cause it was his duty. Had he failed to execute this, one can imagine the torrent of denunciation which the Democrats would have poured out upon him. Received an Appointment. It is rumored here that Hon. W. 8S. It seems strange that more missionaries should be allowed to sail for China in the face of the murderous Boxer outbreak. It is surely folly, and there people should be stopped. There are about twenty now in New York ready to sail, They net only take their lives in their hands in going on such ‘a mission: ander the present exciting circumstances, but to go at this time will simply add ‘fuel to the flames in the disturbed empire.
