WILKESBARRE, Pa, July 6.—George Smith, the man who bas been awaiting trial for some weeks on the charge of dynamiting a Lehigh Valley freight train two years ago and killing over a hundred cattle, faced a jury today. San Franoisoo, July 5 —George Curry, a gripman on the Powell street line, fired four shots ioto the body of hie wife this afternoon and fatally wounded her, She died before the bullets could be taken from her body and her remains were later removed to the morgue. LaWRENOEBURG, Ind., July 5.—James Williams’ houseboat on the Ohfo river bank near here, was blown up with dynamite today, and Williams’ wife and infant child are believed to bave perished, Williams and his wife had been quarreling, He has disappeared. Killed by a Train Santa Cruz, July 6.—An unknown man was ran over by the broad guage train last evening one mile east of Ap-. tos. The accident occurred at a curve and on a down grade. The man was sitting on the edge of the track and it is supposed he was intoxicated. The wheels passed over his body and he was badly cut and mangled. Americans Win. In the account of the Fourth of July TrawsonipT, several pleasing features were inadvertently omitted, among whieh was a handsomely decorated carriage in which were seated Thos. 8. Last evening a number of boys and girls were entertained at the residence of Mr.and Mrs. W. F. Englebright on Broad street. The front lawn was filied with the merry crowd of little people and a fine display of fireworks was made. The fun was greatly enjoyed by all, and they departed for their homes feeling that they had been delightfally entertained. Murder Charge. Kansas Orty, Jaly 6—Fravk Hottman of this city, 22 years of age, was arrested in Walla-Walle, Wash., yesterday, charged withthe murder of Olarence Meyers in this city May 11th. Meyers was found dead with hia throat cut. His wife declared two negro ‘burglares were his assailants. The police professed to believe her story and released her, but they started an investigation on the theory that a man ac. customed to visiting the woman killed the hasband. Hottman and Mra, Meyers were childran together at Higglosville, Mo. \ Mrs. Meyers is still in Kansas Oity. : Found Dead. Curcaao, Jaly 56.—Temporary insanity, the result of the loss of his family in the Norge steamship dieaster, ie given as the cause of the alleged guicide of Otto Hanson, who has been fouod dead on the railroad tracks in Evanston, About a montb ago Hanson sent for his family to come to Evanston to live. ’ They Lined Up. BoneEsTez., 8. D., July 6.—When the Government registration booke for entry on the Rosebud [Indian Reservation were opened today there were abcat 1500 people waiting in line. Wet and steaming under the hoi sun, the homeseekers, many of whom had remained in line all night during a raiostorm, sat on the ground and played cards and ate lunches which they purchased from vendors passing up and down the line. Many of them were women. A New Trial. SACRAMENTO, July 5.—A. Lingerman, J. P. Sevener, T. F. Gormer and Fred Roberts, all convicted of murder in the first degree for having killed a mab named Jack Welch near Lovelock, Nevade, have been granted a new trial by the Supreme Court of that State. The (ity Trustees held a meeting last evening and granted a permit to David Kay, the contractor, to pave Broad etreet from National Alley to the bridge. It was decided that the property holders fronting on that portion of Broad street must pave their part. The work was begun today. Sacramento street from the Plasa toa point in front of the residence of Q. P. Lougbridge will be paved. It is probable that the Narrow Gauge will have the depot. Sold for $15,000.
