A letter received from Miss Sadie
Clauson, who was in the railroad wreck
near Elko Tuesday with her mother,
was receivedtoday. They were thrown
from their seats by the shock. Mrs.
Clauson struck on her head, sustaining a severe scalp wound, the young
lady being hurt on her cheek bone.
They have been taken to-Ogden to remain for treatment till all danger of
erysipelas is passed.

infamous slander is being circulated
in Grass Valley and vicinity, regarding
the undersigned doctor and the wife of

whereas, said slander. is. malicious, untrue, and without the least foundation
doctor professionally ; now, therefore, . ,
we, the undersigned, offer a reward of . A.
one hundred dollars for evidence that
will establish in court the composer and
circulator of said slander.”
An American woman giving her
name as Jennie Watt and her age as 24
the county jail to serve twenty days
for vagrancy. She arrived in town
yesterday foom Nevada City, where
she claims to have been employed for] ‘
@ month in a private family. She says
her sick and widowed mother lives on
a place near Colfax that is mortgaged
the county seat told her the quickest
and best way to pay off the mortgage
was to“go on the town.” pon her artown hovel and spent the night in

was in this room she was arrested this
morning. She is believed to be an old
offender and the officers place no
credence in her story about her mother
and that her course was due to advice
