‘Brought Here For Treatment.
The oldest son of Nevada Hartung of
Pleasant Valley, a boy sixteen years of age,
was thrown from a horse not long since and
struck on his head. What Was considered
a slight injury was inflicted on the side of
the head. The abraision gréw more painful
every day and the bruised portion of the
head became. puffed and swollen. Yesterday
Mr. Hartung brought the boy to this city
. for surgical treatment and had the swelling
lanced. The attending physician says there
may possibly be a slight fracture of the
skull, and will make am examination to determine that fact should the. bey’s condition
not improve. In consequence of the serious
turn the injury has taken the boy has been
quite sick for the pastfew days. His parents are here with him and are stopping at
the home of A. Hartung.

This forenoon as a young man named
Milton Parsons was. plowing at A. D. Sutton’s ranch, on the -Grass Valley road, the
span of colts he was driving became fright—'

over his head and in consequence was
dragged some distance before he could get
loose. The plow. was broken to pieces and
one of the young man’s feet was badly
sprained and otherwise hurt by striking
against a post. He was brought to town
“by Mr. Sutton and his injury attended to
by Dr. Muller. The youug man is a son of

Vhe revival of California gold mining,
which begun two years ago, when the great
financial panic caused a demand for gold
throughout the entire business world," is still
gathering force. The California gold mines
are now sending to San Francisco refineries

DELINQUENT TAXES.
A Now Order of Things Relating to Redemption of Property.
The new revenue law, as it relates to delinguent taxes, makes several changes in
the matter of redemption of property.
Heretofore property has been sold at public
auction to the person who was willing to
accept the smallest portion of it in return
for the payment of the taxes on the whole
with the additional per cent and costs. All
that is now charged, and the property in
every instance is soldo the State.
The following paragraph of the statutes
relates to the manner in which person, where
property has been sold for taxes, can redeem the same: =
“By paying to the County Treasurer
of the county wherein the real estate may be
situated the amount of taxes due thereon at
the time of the said sale, with interest
thereon at the rate of 7 per cent per annum;
and also all taxes that were a lien upon said
real estate at the time said taxes became delinquent; and also tor each year since the
sale for which taxes on band have not been
paid, an amount equal to the percentage of
real estate as assessed for that ‘year; or, if
not so assessed, then upon the value of the
property as-assessed in the year nearest the
time of such redemption, with interest from
the first day of January of each of said
years respectively, at the same rate, to the
time of redemption; and also all costs and
expensés of redemption, as hereinafer specified, and penalties as follows, to-wit. Ten
per cent, if redeemed within six months
from the date of the sale; twenty per cent,
if redeemed within one year therefrom;
forty per cent, if. redeemed within two years
therefrom; sixty per cent, if redeemed within
three years therefrom; eighty. per cent, if
redeemed within four years therefrom, and
one-hundred -per cent, if redeeled with five
or any greater number of years therefrom.
The penalty shall be computed upon the
amount of each years’ taxes in like manner,
reckoning from the time when the lands
would have been sold for the taxes of that
year, if there had been no previous sale
thereof,”
The person desiring to redeem will receive from the County Auditor triple certiticates of the total amount due; these he
will deliver to the County Treasurer, together with the monéy, From_the County
Treasurer he will receive triple receipts, one
of which he will deliver to the State Controller and one of which he Will deliver to
the County Auditor, taking -their receipt
therefor, Fhereupon any ,deed cr certiticate of sale that may. have been made to the
State shall become null and void and all
interest acquired by the State shall cease
and the property revert to its original
owner in whose name it was held before the
tax sale took place,

It {s Working Wonders in the
Mines.
We find the following in the San Francisco Chronicle of Monday:
Nevapa Crry, July 7th.—An unusual
large number of residences and business
buildings are going up this season, and the
quaint and crude architecture of early days
is ‘giving way to the modern and pretentious
styles. Cement sidewalks are being laid
all over'the city, streets are being improved,
sewerage facilities increased, a public park
is plauned, and Nevada City is fast becoming
one of ihe most prosperous metropolitan as
well as picturesque provincial towns of the
State.
The , Nevada County Electric-Power
Company expects to be ready for business
inside of the next: three months. A large
force of men are at work damming the
South Yuba river at Purdon’s bridge, .six
miles from this city, constructing flumes,
erecting dynamo-houses and doing dther
preliminary work. The setting of poles for
the line over which the electricity will be
transmitted to the mines of this city and
taxes for that year upon the value of the. Grass Valley will begin in‘a few days. The
machiner¥ of these mines is now operated
by water purchased from ‘the South Yuba
Company, but it is claimed that the introduction’ of the new motor will greatly lessen
the expense of opening and working the
mines.
Upward of $100,000 is being. expended in
putting the enterprise on its feet, the promoters being well-known capitalists of San
Francisco and San Jose. Manager Kidder
of the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad, who owns a franchise for the electric
railroad over the county’s: road, between
this city and Grass Valley, has consented to
transfer the franchise to any resffonsible
man or set of men who will begin the construction of a line within a reasonable time
and speedily push it to completion. It is
stated that a strong company will be organized this summer to accept General Kidder’s
liberal offer.

The Point of the Pistol
Is an effectual persuader, and there are
many persons so unminded of the symptoms
of oncoming disease that it would almost
take that deadly argument to induce them:to
adopt precautionary measures. The best of
these is a recourse to that fine botanic restorer, Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters.° It
vanquishes malaria, rheumatism, kidney and
bladder trouble, failing digestion, biliousness
and irregularity of the bowels, and completely fortifies the system against their further inroads. Its ingredients are drawn
from nature’s storehouse, consequently it is
free from the objections attaching to many
absolutely or semi-mineral remedies. For
the delicate, infirm, convalescent and elderly
it is peculiarly beneficial, It well merits
continuous and systemtic use. Take it at
bed time to induce sleep, and between meals
to stimulate appetite and digestion, The
medical fraternity concur in indorsing it.
