This morning after it became known
that Cohn’s candy factory had been

committed the burglary had cut his
hand and that he had left a’ trail of
blood behind him. The officers started
to follow the trail and found that it
led up back of Joe Knight’s saloon.
Inquiry elicited the fact that Knight’s
terrier dog had cut his foot this morning while coming down street: with his
master, who stepped into Cohn’s’store
to see how the burglars had got in;
This explained the spots of blood on:
the sidewalk and in the store.

The New Ordinance Imposing a License
_ 00 Business of All Kinds,
_At the adjourned meeting of the
Board of City Trustees last evening
the proposed business license ordinance was passed. It is believed that
the new law will meet with the general
approbation of those most directly
concerned and that through its operation the city will be greatly benefitted.
The greatest care was exercised in preparing it, s0 as to have the provisions
just. The rate of license imposed is
according to the amount of business
transacted. The license for saloons is
increased from $15 to $20 per quarter.
provided the city’s revenue will be increased over $100 per month.
‘All classes of business are to be hereafter licensed. A minimum tax that
will not prove a hardship is: to be
placed on. our own citizens engaged in
‘the various lines of traffic, but shirt
and. clothing agents, book canvassers,
etc., temporarily engaged in business
here, will be asked to pay a good round
sum for the privilege. While the tax
on them will not be absolutely prohibitory it is large enough to greatly restrict the number of them doing business here. hen :

by everybody.
