He was splitting stove wood and was holding a stick with his right hand and using the ax with his left hand, when the sharp blade of the ax struck him on the hand with sufficient force to almost completely gever the right index finger, close to the hand, and cutting partly through the secoud finger. Frank White brought Waggoner to town ‘and Dr, Maller attended him. The forefinger was found to be hanging by a small particle of-skin, but the doctor decided not to remove it, hoping that the circulation, which was not entirely destruyed, would be sufficient to save the member.
