A dispatch to. the Examiner from
Washington, dated Jnne 9th says:
President McKinley's preference for
Vice President is President Scott of the
Union Tron Works of San Francisco—
of the firm that built the battleship
Oregon—from the Pacific Coast.
The Scott boom was launched today.
An important fact in connection with
presentative &. J. Waters 08
Angeles, and Geo. A. Knight, a delegate
at-large to the National Ognvention
from California, were with the President, Ohairman Hanna and Secretary
ai during a portion of today’s con.
ference. Mr. Scott’s idacy was
formally announced ‘an ived the
Executive approval. After the conference it was authoritatively declared
that Mr. Scott was iti the race and had
the good-will of President McKinley.
The approval by the Republican
managers of a Pacific Coast candidate
has clarified the Vice-Presidential
situation to a considerable extent.
Long ago some of the leaders, including
some of the recognized Administration
countered. was to find a man upon
whom the QOoast Republicans could
anite. It is believed that Mr. Scott’s
‘. selection has solved the difficulty.
