June 12, 1901 Death Of John Fall. a ° He Succumbs to the Injuries He Received, John Hall, who was so badly hurt by a runaway at Dave Jones’ ranch, died of his injuries. Another team, which alsc contained a colt, passed by and the horses became frightened and both teams ran away. San Francisco, June 12.—A butchers’ strike was inaugurated in this city at ten o’clock this morning when eleven hundred men walked out of the shops. The union men claim that a hundred butcher shops re fuse to take down the union card,’ so the men remained at} work. The case of the People vs. Peter Cozzaglio, chirged with selling whiskey to an Indian, was on trial in the Superior Court today. The prosecution rested after examining the following witnesses: H. J. Winters, Higgins Bodus. Thomas Oassidy, William Tuttle and Max Isoard. The Defense opened their case by attacking the character of Detective Winters, the Prosecation’s principal witness. J. G. Snook, Edward Hoppie and W. W. Whitney of Sacramento county testifled. Strike S till On. San FRANCISCO, Jane —11—The atrike situation in this city _is.unehanged. President William McOabe. of the Iron Trades Council, said today: There are fully 4350 men in this industry out on strike. Of iron moulders, who were the last to go out, there are some 350 in all. If a disposition is shown there to settle the differences through conference, or if our contentions are fairly treated, it will go along way toward bringing the strike toa speedy end. . Returned Stolen Money Mania, June 11—In the trials today of officers of the Forty-third Regiment, on charges of bribery and permitting trade with the closed ports of the Island of Leyte, Surgeon Dudley Welch confessed, and made damaging -statements against Captain Michael Shelman and Lieutenant Delbert R. Jones. Welch refunded a thousand pesos, his share of the spoils. The President of Maasin has been arrested, charged with being implicated in the transactions.
