The Dastardly Trick Played Upon the Athletic Club. Eprrorn Transcrret: On Friday morning, June 8th, Mr. F. T. Nilon received an envelope postmarked ‘‘N. Bloomfield, June 7,” covering a letter addressed as follows: ‘“*Mr, Nilon: Please hand this letter to the manager of the Nevada City Athletic Club, (Signed) E. Cummins.” Mr. Nilon gave the letter to me and I now hand it to you for publication. as follows: NortH BioomrFietp, June 6, 1894. We did not know the Club had an enemy in the county. The Club has been just and honorable in all its transactions, and no athletic organization in the State has a cleaner record, We are at-a-loss to tind a reason for such despicable treatment and can only attribute it to jealousy or downright cussedness, affair and swears he will ‘‘pen ” the scrub if he is caught. We have had parties working on the letter since Saturday morning, but as yet no clew has been obtained. M, Burns in the Baldwin Hotel. fe **Don’t have any idea that Estee is going to be nominated,’ said an old-time politician to a Bee reporter in San Francisco last Sunday evening. ‘‘He is only put up fora blind, and, as I understood it, Estee is in with the deal, The plan is to boom him as much as possible in order to divert attention from young Barnes, who will be thrown into the fight with great force just at the last minute. He will be brought in a regular hip, hip, hurrah style. ‘Then Estee will drop back into the gloom and wait for the meeting of the next Legislature, when, according to the programme, he will be put up for United States Senator against Geo. C. Perkins. In my opinion, Colonel Dan Burns is too shrewd a politicion to nominate a man for Governor who has never been able to capture an election to any office of importance.” Despite the-fact that San Francisco seems determined to name the nominee for Governor, the North is going to make such a strong demand for General Chipman, of Red Bluff, that its voice will surely be heard. Tne North declares that it will lisben to no sort of compromise offer, and no delegates or politicians need go flirting about them unless Chipman is ‘‘in it.” Stanislaus and San Joaquin will insist upon the nomination of McDonald, and the way things look now there is going to be a great smashing of programme slates, and the tended f al3 ~" Awarded Highest Honors—World’s Fair.
