Since the primaries of Saturday Messrs. Spreckels. and Burns have been feeling the interior pulse. It was found that Mr, Estee was popular in nearly every county. Many of the populous counties, such ag Sacramenfirst choice. Then from the counties of Kern, Kings, San Joaquin, Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara, Mendocino, Humboldt, Siskiyou, Glenn, Yolo, Sutter, Yuba, Bntte, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Plumas, Sierra, Nevada and Calaveras came messages that Estee would have many votes in the . delegations, There were enough votes offered Estee to give him the nomination, —So Colonel Burns . aud Mr. Spreckels concluded to get in line with public sentiment, and they dictated in‘terviews for publication giving their preference for Estee for Governor. . Estee in nomination, and P, B. I have been waiting to know something of public opinion in the interior in relation to the candidacy for this important position, Most of the counties have already spoken and in a majority of all Mr. Estee. The air whistle will take the place of the bell cord now in use on trains, and the change is made on accouut of the unreliability of the gong to sound in the engine cab when the bell cord is pulled, especially on long trains. The whistle is in use by a number of large railroads in the East, and it will be but a short time betore all the engines and cars of the Southern Pacitic Company will be equipped with it.
