Haurrax, N. 8., June 18—After sailing nearly 700 miles in an open boat to take relief to their ship, the Border Knight, Mr. Mathie, chief officer, and bor, the end of their-fifteen days’ journey, to find that their steamer had just been towed in, a distance of 450 miles, by the Spanish steamship Duranco, from Philadelphia for Bilbao. O’Neil one of Sgacramento’s leading citizens is here spending a few days. J. Dudley Helm Married. On Wednesday last, at San Francisco, J. Dudley Helm, son of J. Harvey Helm formerly of this city, and Miss Estelle Brinn were united in marriage by Judge Hebbard. The groom. is a prominent mining man and the bride is_one of the leading belles of the Bay city. The elder Helm and family used to iive in the house now occupied by OC. J. Naffziger, on Nevada street. Pietro Rondoni, a native of Italy, was duly admitted to citizenship in the Superior Court today upon the testimony of M. Solari and L. Viorornra, B,,C., June 13—By the Miowora,which arrived today, news was received from Guinea, via Sydney, of-the massacre of the Rev. 8. J. Chalmers and B. F. Thompson and fourteen native teachers by cannibals. The whites were eaten. The scene of the cannibal orgie were seen by troops sent out to investigate the massacre, aud a portion of a jaw and thigh bones of the missionaries were found, together with their hats and portions of trousers which belonged to Chalmers. The expedition punished the natives, destroying their villages and canoes. Some prisoners were taken during an attack made by the natives on the troops, who told the awful tale of the massacre and cannibalism. 2 Hon. J. M. The latter team is said to be a good one and the local team is practicing hard so as to be victorious, Colfax’s battery will be Sterling and Angles and Beardsley and Hallett will act for the Populars.
