He fonght his keepers like a manisc, and they had to ee ine papas Wasamaron, Ja une 16.—The Hawaiian Commissioners and Secretary Sherman’ signéd the Hawaiian treaty at 9:20 o'clock this morning, and at 3:45 p, m. it was sent to the Senate. By its terms the Provisional Government of the Island cedes all rights of sovereignty, the Islands to become a territory of the United States, which comes into possession of all public property and is to assume not over $4,000,000 of debts. AIL revenue from the sale of land is to be used in the Islands for educational and other public purposes. Local laws are to be passed by a local legislature subject to approval by Congress. The present laws and treaties in effect are to continue to govern pending Congressional action. The Japanese Government today filed a protest, on the ground that the treaty promises to bring about a breach of the treaty. relations of Hawaii and Japan. When the treaty reached the Senate it created much discussion, Senator Perkins opposed ratifying it before the December term, till it was known the Japanese Government had protested, when he and all others opposed to immediate action withdrew their objections. It will probably be passed with-~’ out a dissenting vote. Hot Stuff in Chicago. Cuicaco, June 16.—Yesterday was the hottest day of the season, the Government thermometer registering 90 degrees at noon. The thermometers on the street show it to be from two to five degrees hotter.
