forces ‘piracy and smuggling along the
Ouban coast have increased enormously. The Collectors of half a dozen
ports are constantly requesting the assistance of revenue cutters, The chief
offenjers are smacks fron Jamaica,
Nassau and Barbadoes. There are
only two cutters avallable to guard
2000 miles of coast line. Four others,
owned by the Government, are at present out of commission.

that General Matos, the leading spirit
in the revolution, is marching» op
Oaracas with a force of nearly 7000

the overthrow of the Oastro Administration in a short time.

blows and warm words made the room
as exciting as the arena of a prigefighting carnival. W. W. Copeland,

Some Opposition.
CorgnnacEn, June 18—The opponents of the eale of the Danish West
Indies to the United. States are egain
active, but privately they admit that
they are meeting with little success.
The response to the appeal for funds
to aid in the movement in opposition
to the sale was decidedly weak. The
meetings were held secretly, bat beyond a few politicians they have been
most'y attended by business men interested in the proposed steamship line
to the island of St. Thomas. The
Government discountenances the antic
sale agitation. The Danish West Io-.
dies treaty will be a prominent iesue of
the campaign preceding the election
to the Landsthing. The Premier, Dr.
Deuntzer, starts on a speech-making
tour next week. ;
spy Reports.
T, 8. Smith, the spy who visited this

and from his report it is to beseen
that his trip up this way was not to
much aveil. All the hydraulic mines
which were in operation were ‘being
run according to the law and he
found the American river clear to a
point below Oolfex. In the suit recently brought by the association against
B. Bishop and Oharles French of
French Corral, Smith served injunctions on the men.
