An Immense Vote.
The coupon contest inaugurated by Rose
& Marwick at Grass Valley, and which
concluded Thursday night, was one of the
warinest competitions that ever took place
the rivalry reached a white heat, especially
among the friends-.of the girls who were
striving for the first prize. Coupons were
obtained from different parts of the State
by friends of the contestants, and in this
way an immense vote was polled. The
forty-eight contestants polled 264,397 votes.
Of this number May Goldstone was credited
with 80,602; Mary Shoemaker, 57,134;
Addie Barry, 20,674; Nellie Fiske, 10,884.
Stealing Dogs.

Several dogs have been stolen in this city
lately, and the owners are puzzled to know
who has taken them. ‘The dogs. that have
been abducted away from their homes were
valued highly by their masters. “A prefer=
the dog stealers weuld make way with the
worthless curs around town they would receive the thanks of the majority of our
citizens. We will agree to ‘‘ put them en
to” a dozen or more and promise not to
‘‘give'them away” if they. secure the
removal of these no-account canines. .
