Joseph O’Connell of the telephone company went to San Francisco today. Mrs. Robert Forbes of San Francisco went to Downieville today to spend the heated term. : Miss Laura Buffington of Berkeley is here on a visit to her brother, Supervisor Jobn M. Buffington. Sampson Furth and G. Manhire of San Francisco are visiting -Mr. Furth’s parents at North San Juan. Mrs. Matthew Hoskin has been called to Stockton on account of the illness there of her daughter Ada. John O'Donnell and Dan Kelly’ left today for Bisbee, Arizona, where they have good jobs. Mrs. H.C. Smith and daughter arrived from San Francisco last evening, on a visit to Mrs. Smith’s sister, Mrs. ©. L. Maller. Mrs. A. H. Iliohan and daughter, who have been visiting with Mr. and Mrs. P. F. Simonds have returned to their home at San Francisco. Mrs. J. Profumo of Alameda, Mrs. F. ‘A. Maimone of San Francisco and Miss Pauline Grondona of Oakland, are here visiting Mrs. George Osterman. Joseph Knight of this city, who was recently very sick at San Francisco, is reported to be much improved now. Charles E. Malloy, who is suffering from an attack of typhoid fever, is better. Preparations Progressing For the Great Event at Glenbrook Park. . Zhe picinic to be given at Glenbrook Park next Saturday is the talk of the town. Everything possible will be done by the various committes to entertain the big crowd of people thut will be there. The barbecue, which will bea novelty for Nevada countyans, is to be one of the star features of the occasion. Only the choicest of meats are to be used and they will be prepared with the greatest skill and care. There will be a rare program of races, games and other sports, to the winners of which prizes will be given. The platform in the grove is being put inf perfect be the highest class of music for the dancers to step to. Tomorrow evening the bids for privileges are to be opened. Everything indicates that the celebration will be one of the best ever held here. : At their meeting last evening the firemen voted to turn out in force and all three companies will be in line in the parade with richly decorated floats. The members will be specially uniformed for the occasion. The Pennsy!vauiaus will wear white pants, white shirt and hat, with the company’s belt. The officers will be distinguished by a different uniform.
