NEVADA City DaiILy TRANSCRIPT NAT. P. BROWN, Proprietor. _FRED E. BROWN, TERMS OF SUBSCRIPTION ByMel, = «+ + $6 Per Year . By Carrier, = . Delivered to any part of the city. “Issued Every Evening, Sundays Excepted, at Nevada SATURDAY —— 12 1-2c Per Week City June 20, 1903 eee ee eee eee eee eee ee eee eee ey HE HAS HAD PIE ENOUGH. N their desperate efforts to find a Moses to lead them out of their political wilderness and through the Presidential campaign of 1904, the leaders of the Democratic party have been seeking long and anxiously for a strong and popular candidate to put up against the muchadmired Republican standard-bearer—Theodore Roosevelt, but it seems that their hard work has been fruitless. The Democratic newspapers: and party leaders throughout the land in their attempt to induce Grover Cleveland to take the thankless job, precipitated what ‘was intended to prove a “big boom” for him, but the scheme wouldn’t work and has received cold support from the great majority in the Democratic ranks, for the latter not only realize that Grover could not make a successful fight against the irresistible and popular Teddy, but they also know by past intimations from Mr. Cleveland that he ‘does not want the honor.’ Nevertheless there has been a disposition manifested by a few to force it on him, but he refuses to accept ft and his final reply demon-Strates that he has a mind of his own and that it is capable of exercising keen judgment. Mr. Cleveland says: “It is perfectly absurd to suppose for an instant that I have any desire to re-enter public life. Nor have I remotely entertained the thought since I left Washington, more than six yearsago. The matter is as far from my thoughts as it was in 1896, when, all must admit, it was not within my hearing or my sight. I have no higher aspiration than to. pass my days in peace with my family around me, and take no part in politics which any private citizen cannot take with the utmost propriety. I have never spoken to anybody on the subject of a fourth candidacy. “I have on several occasions within a year undertaken to perform the labor which usually falls to the private in the ranks, but there has not lurked within me the hope of any reward save the consciousness of having made an effort to assist in bringing about salutary conditions in the party.” ~ Pointed Shots. The Delaware peach crop is all right, but it is estimated that half of the grape crop of France was ruined by the late frosts. With the prohibition of adulterated foreign wines the price of the purer American product should be better. THE ACHES AND PAINS WILL DISAPPEAR If the Advice of This Nevada City Citizen is Followed. A woman’s back has many aches and pains. : Most times ’tis the kidneys’ fault, Backache is really kidney ache. That’s why Doan’s Kidney Pills cure it. Many Nevada City women know this. Read what one has to say about it. Mre, Maxin Martinetti, of Nevada St., Aristocracy Hill, near city limits, says: “I had backache for at least ten years, not all the time but it came on in attacks, some of them very sever and some of them mild. When they were at their height 1 wae unable some times to turn in bed without assistance. I knew from the pain being located just across the kidneys that those organs were either overexcited or weakened, but I did not know what to do to get relief, although I was constantly trying little simple remedies, When I saw Doan’s Kidney Pills advertised and that they were for the kidneys and the kidneys alone, I went to Vinton’s drag store for a box. A continuation of the treatment for a short time stopped the last attack.” Sold for 50 cents a box by all dealers. Foster-Milburn Co., Buffalo, N. Y., sole agents for the United States.
