The South Yuba Canal Company has
purchased the Predmore place at Clipper Gap and intend to build a storage
dam there this summer. The dam will
be built about 40: feet high and §its
storage capacity is estimated at about
10,000 mehes or over 150 million gallons.
The site is an excellent one: The com. pany has purchased 240 acres of land
oe will subdivide the part not used
for the dam into small tracts and sell
it. The fact of such a large dam -with
good fishing -adjoining the land will
make it a popular resort in: the foothills. The building of the dam will insure a steady flow of water below in
case of accident and will also act as a
settling reservoir.—Colfax Sentinel.

umber and have it on the grounds as
soon as possible. Your correspondent
is informed that the carpenters will be
at work in less than two weeks. It is
expected than when the works are
fairly started upwards of fifty men
be employed, -and if the enterprise
proves a paying one there will be employment for an unlimited number of
bread winners.
Boy Seriously Hurt.
George Henry Allen, twelve-year-old
son of George Allen, was quite seriously hurt yesterday. He was out to
the merry-go-round and attempted to
jump on while it was in motion. The
result was'that the boy was caught between the cable and the jack, the cable
tearing through the flesh and muscles
‘of the calf of his left leg, clear to the
bone. The machine was stopped as
quickly as possible, the boy extricated
and taken to his -home. Dr. Muller
says the injury may affect him for life.
It was necessary to take eight stitches
to draw the gaping wound together.

Weed Killing by Electricity.
Electricity may soon tackle thistle
and jimcon weed. ~ Professor Woodworth of the Michigan Agricultural college announces that electricity is quite
as cheap as salt for the killing off of
weeds in the long run, as it is much
the root. He purposes to experiment on
the most noxious weeds by taking a
wheelbarrow or wagon sapplied with a
storage battery to the land to be cleared
and let the hanging wires drag along
the ground. He insists on the practicability of removing Capada and Russian:
thistles from farms in thig way. —Se.
