Telegraph: Mining Engineer Eckart informed us this morning that work would soon be commenced on the. Allison Ranch mine, -The machinery has’ already been ordered and built and will soon arrive here. Several plans have bean submitted as regards the electric or water power but as yet it has not been entirely settled'as to which will be used.’ It:is sure however that. work will soon. be commenced and that. it will start in a genuine way. Leave Orders For Uniforms. Members of the Native Sons who in“tend turning out in the procession on the 4th of July should leave their orders without further delay at E. E. Dulac’s tailor shop. One dollar is the cost, Curly Bears can get their uniforms for the night parade on the 8d by applying to M. M. Baruh at Miller’s clothing store. The price is only 50 cents. Will Cleanse the Pipes. The city reservoirs ai are to be sluiced out and the main pipes flushed, in order to clean out the accumulated-sediment: and pther dirt that has lately caused the town water to be so muddy. The work will be done ‘right away and good water will be flowing through the pipes again in two or. three days. An Electric Piece, The Curly Bears intend having an electric display put up somewhere on the line of march. It will consist of the words, “Hell—o! Cubs!” to be formed of letters two by three feet: in -size, illuminated with coloréd incandescent lamps. It will be quite attractive. Waiting For the Snow to Melt. John P. Clark, the Meadow Lake prospector, is at present stopping at Cisco, on the line of the Central Pacific Railroad. He writes that there are a number of mining men there waiting for the snow to disappear so they can get into the Meadow Lake district. Died at Lincoln. : W. Sparks, owner of the feed store . ¢ near the depot, received a: dispatch this morning that his wife’s sister-inlaw, Mrs. Grant Allen, died at Lincoln last night. He then returned to Nevada county .and ‘bought the 820 acre Gassaway ranch which he farmed until 1892, whén he again sold to the same company, “Mr. Morrell is a great favorite among the young folks. Fully twenty times more‘children call him grandpa than he could possibly have grandchildren, even if he lived in Utah. His store is constantiy brightened by the merry laughter of children, who have come to to tease grandpa for some candy. Montalvo is prolific of happy, rollicking» healthy children any way, “Both Mr. Morrell and his son claim to have been successful beyond their most sanguine hope and over that they could not ask for a more delightful place to live and do business in than Montalyo,” ~ MILITARY "WATTERS, The Membership Being Strengthensd— Neyada City Trip. “Marysville Appeal ;—At a business meeting of Company D held last evening the applications of James Hall, James Gray and Charles Schellinger for membership were read, and they were sworn in as members of the company, A committee consisting of Lieutenant Oanning, Sergeant Delay and Corporal Nelson was appointed to make all ihe necessary arrangements for the visit of the company to Nevada City on July 4th. Ben Silas filed an application for membership. John P. Colford Jr. enlisted for the third time, and Frank Terstegge for the second time. Jesse Boulton again joined the company and will act as drummer. Captain G. H. Voss filled up all the vacancies, and the non-commissioned otficers of the company are as follows in the order named: Sergeants—P. J, Delay, Frank Terstegge, J. P. Colford Jr. C. Mayer, M. Nelson. Quartermaster Sergeant—Bart Morrissey. Corporals —G. W. Peyser, J. P. Arnoldy, John Giblin, W. C. Waldron, 0. C. Hovis, J. Li. Howard, G. McCoy and J. Sellinger. ‘Captain, Voss impressed on the members of the company, the necessity. of the rifle range during the week, and attending drill regularly, Nearly the Whole Family. The San Francisco Examiner: has closed its contest for prizes for the “Mill of Silence” guess work on a story written for that paper. There were several Grass Valley people who won some money in the contest. Among those who won $10 were: Mrs, A. J. Ridge, Mrs. F. G. Beatty now of Berkeley, also Mrs. J, E. Nevada City it would seem that about a half or two-thirds of the population of that lovely town was coming up here on that occasion. The 4th of July will soon be here— one week from next Saturday—and the average boy is waiting anxiously for the glorious occasion, There are many older persons who anticipate a grand time, The parade of the Curly Bears on the night of July 8d will be the grandest and noisiest ever seen or heard since the landing of Christopher Co‘lumbus on this great North American continent. It is thought that all that are required can be made at the yards in this vicinity. The great celebration in Nevada City wijl commence on the night of July 84 at about 9:30 o’clock and will continue without any recess until midnight of July 4th. On the 5th (Sunday) the participants, and that will be about the whole population, will want to spend the day in bed preparatory to resuming their routine business on Monday morning, « A Nevada. City Teacher Wins. Miss Mary Hook of this city was one of the successful contestants in the San Francisco Bulletin’s vacation trip contest. She received 21,807. votes, being seventeenth on the list of interior teachers, and is entitled to a trip to Agua Caliente Springs, with board for four weeks. Miss Hook’s many friends will be glad to hear of her success, and will wish her a pleasant trip, Miss Minnie Rosevere, teacher in the Grass Valley schools, was eighteenth on the list. She gets a trip to Attna Springs, with four weeks’ board. Not Expected to Live. : George Gray, the undertaker, received a dispatch from Sacramento this afternoon that Henry Hines, ex-Sheriff at that place, was very low and not
expected to live, and requesting that his brother-in-law, Henry Keiffer of Montezuma Hill, be notified to come at once.
