Telephone No. 4 . OUR cInys WATER ‘SUPPLY. The Main Pipes Are Not Langs Enough to Supply the Demands. The heavy drain that is* made on the water supply this hot weather tells on the pressure everywhere. are kept running now to one a month ago, and the result.is that the supply in the Twenty small taps 18, 80 diminished that in some places housekeepers and property owners can get water only early in the morning or at night. This is the case on Aristocracy Hill. So water is drawn during the day from’ the main that feeds the Nevada-street main that there is not pressure enough to force the water up the hill.. _ In view of the fact that with the present system of pipes there is apt to be a scarcity of water in certain parts of town at this time.of the year, it would seem that pzople should try to save instead of wasting water. There is lots of water wasted, which, if the users were more careful, those who get but asmall supply at best and often none at all. much would help out In case of fire everythe smali taps, in order that the fire companies may have all the pressure possible, The great trouble with our water system is that tLe mains are not large enough to supply the hundreds of taps that draw froin them. over thirty years and are badly corrofed, the friction caused thereby interfering materially with the pressure,.while the capacity of the pipes is also F Larger pipes are required, and Mrs, Huntington, owner of the town water works, will be urged to have larger maing put in or some arrangement made by which a hetter supply of water can be secured, Besides, the pipes have been down reduced somewhat. 2-9 @e Will Be Buried Tomorrow. The funeral of the late Thomas Curnow, who died yesterday morning, will take’place from the Methodist. Church tomorrew atternoon-at-2o’clock. The Board of Supervisors met as a Board of Equalization according to law and pursuant to an order of the'.'Bourd of SuperMay, 1895 for the purpose of equalizing the assessment roll and fixing a rate of taxation on. property within the‘Pruckee Fire District for the year 1895. ._ Present, J. M. Buffington, E. Ww. Donnelly, and D. McPhetres. Absent, F. M. Pridgeon and T, J, Robinson, Daniel McPhetres, President of the Board, presiding. The Board proceeded to examine the Assessment of said Fire District and adopted visors made on the 2lst day of the following rules to govern them in equalizing the assessment roll of sad Truckee Fire District. r ak The Board may reduce any assessment in the manner prescribed by law or may raise individual assessments after giving the party or parties interested notice through the: mail of such intended raise, Onmotion and by order of the Board the mortgage of G. J.J, Greany, County Clerk. SALOON ROBBED LAST NIGHT, Thieves Enter Brace & Bddy's Place, But t Find Little Money There. The saloon kept by Brace & Eddy, at the corner of Pine and Spring streets, was broken into and robbed last night. It. is evident that an attempt was made to pry open the door on the Spring-street side of the building, but failing in this the thieves broke out a pane of glass and reachiig in unlocked the door. After getting inside they broke open the nickel-in-the-slot machine and abstracted therefrom something over $4 in nickels. They also carried off 450 cigars, and broke the Yale lock off of the door of the brick vault back of the saloon, where case’ goods are kept, and stole therefrom several bottles of whiskey, wine, etc. The burglars no doubt thought there was money hidden about the place and were determined to find it if possible. Not finding any money they laid in assupply of drinkables and smokables, the guilty a are. + e@eNot Through . "Yet. "No clew has been found as to who F,. A. Rolfe, West Broad street, at 10 o’clock this morning, was largely attended, the procession of carriages which followed the remains to their last.resting place in Pine Grove Cemetery being one of the longest ever witnessed here. Laurel Parlor of Native Daughters conducted the funeral. Thofloral tributes sent to the house were beautiful and numerous. A few impressive remarks were made by Rev, Van Deerlin of the Episcopal.
