Should Do It.
The Grass Valley Union says:
The Placer county Supervisors
have sepropelate’ $400 to make
an exhibit of ‘county products at
the State and Mechanic’s Fairs.
Can not the Nevada county Supervisors be equally as liberal 7
— The Board of Supervisors of this
county oughtto make an appropriation of at least $400 for the above
named purpose. As the Union
says, ‘Can not the Nevada County
Supervisors be equally as lib“eral 2”. Why not ? The Supervisors were elected by the people
todo all those things which would
adyance. the best interesta and
prosperity of the county, and they
could in no better way show that
they are men who thoroughly
comprehend the wants of their
constituents, and are willing toact
in accordance therewith ‘by making an appropriation, An expen_diture of $400 to make an exhibit
of our county products at the State
and Mechanics Fair would eventually result in thousands of dollars
benefit to this section of the
country. The 7x9 exhibit from
_ this county to the State’ Fair last
year done a great deal of good in
the way of advertising our products
in addition to receiving about $250)
in premiums. With sufficient money to pay the ordinary expenses
attending a respectable display of
‘yar products would result in the
o¢cupation of thousands of acres
of now barren land.” This is one
of the best ways of making known
to the people abroad that we have
as good agricultural and fruit
lands as_any other part of California. An appropriation should be
made by our Supervisors for this
purpose.
An Unreliable Man.
Frank Pixley is unquestionably
a man of brains, but he is about as
unreliable as a weather cock. He
is scerratic that no one can correctly locate him from one year’s
He is. now. engaged in favoring the Chinese for
the sake, we believe, of being regarded as an independent man,
Many of our readers will remember\a few years ago that this same
Pixley (and hismule) openly declared he would lead a crowd and
go down to the Pacific Mail Steamship Company’s wharf. and apply
the torch to the steamers that
were at that time’ bringing thousands of the Chinese to this Coaste
He was worse, in chin-music, than .
even Dennis Kearney. Now he
says the crusade against the Chinamen, by boycotting them, is unAmerican, and such balderdash.
Another instance of Pixley’s flopping was that of being one of the
most virulent aati-railroad men
in'the State. Nothing was too
mean or bad for him tosay against
the Central Pacific railroad, Stan« ford, Crocker & Co. Now he is a
railroad man, and regards Stanford, Crocker & Co. the greatest
public. benefactors of the age.
What has wrought such a great
change in the gentleman from Solano ? Can any one tell ?

«Ostler Joe.”
We have just received from the
putlishers a copy of the poem
‘Ostler Joe,’? which is published
in neat pamphlet form, with about
forty other choice recitations. ‘‘Ostler Joe’’ is the poem, the reading
of which by Mrs. Potter in Washington Society. afew days ago,
caused such a sensation, the question being whether she was justified in reading such a selection before 4 company composed of firstclass society. It will be sent by

Was Loutitt one of Them ?
Ex-Mayor Bingham, of Marysville, sent a dispatch to -Washington a few days ago thanking our
Congressmen for having an»appropriation made to fight the hydraulic miners. The inference is
drawn that they were all solid on
the proposition—Loutitt included.
Our people are very anxious to
know if Congresstian Loutitt was
really a party to such infamous
business. If so, he has proved
himself most ungrateful to the
men whoelected him, and it will
forever shelve him’ for any other
public office where the miners
have-a chance:to vote. The farmers did. not. stand by him
when he was: a candidate for: his
present position, -but the miners
did. Mr. Loutitt freely acknowledged that had it not been for Ne-’
‘vada county, whith gave him overfive hundred majority, 'e would
have been defeated. We would
like to hear from the Congressman from this district, and will
cheerfully give him the use of the
columns of the TrANscrrrT to explain= his position towards the
miners.
