Numbered with popular window draperies are the various styles of—Madras goods. The beauty and variety of these fabrics would surprise those who have not had ‘an opportunity to examine a choice assortment. Some of the colors are exquisitely blended, being as soft and artistic as thoso in an old India shawl. Tho moro clegant styles come with These fabries are fashionably employed in wide, long curtains that hang from poles, to which they are attached by rings. These curtains may hang straight o~ betlooped back upon either side of the wit dow. stiffness has worn off, and then loop back with ribbons or other contrivance. The prevailing tints in these Madras fabrics are dull, soft shades of blue, red, olive and rose, Considerable yellow occurs; old ved-and olive are also—attractive, so are blue aud bronze.” When the price of the génuine Madras goods is beyond thé reach of the housewifo, sho may have recourse to @ large assortment of imitation goods that. sell at popular prices, but are all the same, attrac: tive materials, : Frogs as Food. : The squeamishnoss existing in this country in regard to eating frogs is gradually decreas ing, and those are found in the markets of all our leading cities. In the United States on'y the hind legs are .eaten, but in France an’ southern Europe, where they are used’ iu large: quantities, the whole animal is con sumed. The frog,--whilo widely di&ributed over the ‘world, is nowhere more abundant than in this country, and there is no reason, therefore, why it should not become a popular article of food. Frog's legs are regarded by epicures as more delicate than spring chicken and with a flavor equal to brook trout. They are good either. broiled, friod, baked or stewed. Attractive Straw Baskets. Straw baskets, even’ those that are quite homely and common, may be mado attractive and suitable for many convenient purposes, as follows: First paint them in flat color or, if preferred, gild or bronze them; then dine with silk or satin, Yellow is a favorito color for lining, and ribbon bows of the same are tied on the handles as a finish. ~The differeut braids of the basket are often painted or gilded in different tints with ood effect. A very pretty work basket is mado by lining a shal low woven basket with any gay color of French percale. # full puff on the outside, for thread, a small needle case, ete. : Inside are pockets beok, “thimble ha ee A Parthenon and Vantheon.
